Legion Pro vs Macbook Pro

I’m buying a new laptop after almost 10–11 years. I’ve been using decent Windows work laptops, so I never really felt the need to upgrade my personal one.

With the recent developments in AI, I’m thinking about starting a side hustle. On my current 11-year-old personal laptop, I mostly do basic everyday tasks. However, with this new machine (which I’ll be buying in the next couple of days), I’d like to do coding (VS Code, Claude Code), AI image generation, and occasional video editing.

I’m currently doing all of this on my work laptop, but I’d like to keep my side hustle separate, so I’m looking for an upgrade.

I’m in two minds between the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IAX10H (RTX 5070 Ti) and the Apple MacBook Pro 14 M5 Pro (15-core CPU). I’m also considering the Legion Pro 7 16IAX10H (RTX 5070 Ti), mainly because of its vapour chamber cooling. The Legion Pro 5 and MacBook Pro 14 M5 Pro are within my budget, while the Legion Pro 7 is a bit of a stretch but still manageable.

I’m looking for advice on this purchase. Based on my buying habits, I don’t think I’ll upgrade again for at least another five years. The key things I’m looking for in my new laptop are performance to support my side hustle and good battery life.
