REGAL & AMC MOVIES CAPTIONS !

Hey everyone! If you live in Upstate NY and rely on captions to watch movies, we have a real chance to finally bring on screen open captions to movie theaters.

As a Hard of Hearing person, going to the movies has been incredibly frustrating for most of us in the community. The devices theaters currently hand us like the caption glasses don't fit over prescription glasses and the tiny screens that clip into cup holders constantly has us looking down missing the entire movie.

We are pushing for NY Senate Bill S9888, which would require theaters to offer on screen open captions for 1 out of every 4 screenings.

We just need more callers to reach out before the June 4th legislative deadline to push this bill through.

How you can help:

Call Syracuse Senator Rachel May

(315) 478-8745

(Or reach out to your own local Upstate NY State Senator!)

You can say

"Hi, I am an Upstate New York resident. I’m calling to ask the Senator to support Bill S9888 and move it out of the Consumer Protection Committee. Open captions are basic equal access for the Deaf, hard of hearing, and all communities all across Upstate. We need her to pass this before the June 4th deadline. Thank you!"

This is significant for so many of us and we all would appreciate your support! Thank you so much!

UPSTATE NEW YORKERS! WHY DOESN'T DESTINY USA HAVE OPEN CAPTIONS YET?

If you live in Upstate New York, I would appreciate your time.

Just saw a post about a new luxury movie theater opening in Syracuse. Which is nice... but how is it 2026 and we still don't have accessible on screen captions?

I grew up in Syracuse my whole life and my Deaf and Hard of Hearing friends and I have always struggled at the movies. They either hand you caption glasses that don't fit over prescription glasses, or tiny caption screens that clip onto your cup holder where you look up and down missing the entire movie.

Over 3 million New Yorkers live with hearing loss including people with auditory processing disorders, senior citizens, neurodivergent people, and anyone who relies on captions.

Currently there are very few movies with captions. But there is a bill right now S9888 and A4628 that would finally require open captions on screen for more movies statewide. This bill has failed to pass two years in a row and we have until June 4th to push it through.

Please make one call right now to help us:

Senator Rachel May

(315) 478-8745

Just say: "I support the Open Caption Bill S9888 and want it passed before June 4th."

This would be life changing for so many of us. And I lowkey just want to watch Backrooms on the big screen.

FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE I posted the official flyer directly in the comments below so you don't have to click any links. Thank you all so much!
