[Crosspost] Hi Reddit - I’m Johnnie Burn, Oscar-winning sound designer behind The Zone of Interest, Poor Things, Under the Skin, Nope, Hamnet, Bugonia, The Favourite, The Lobster, and TUNER. My mum once said: “What do you mean you do the sound on films? They sound alright to me.” Let me explain. AMA

I organized an AMA/Q&A with Johnnie Burn, Oscar-winning sound designer, editor, mixer, and supervisor. He's known for his work on The Zone of Interest (which he won the Oscar for), Hamnet, Poor Things, Under the Skin, Bugonia, Nope, The Favourite, The Lobster, Waves, 28 Years Later, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and tons more. He's probably the world's best working sound designer.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1tjiitz/hi_rmovies_im_johnnie_burn_oscarwinning_sound/

He will be back at 3 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

His new movie, Tuner, is out in theaters everywhere next week, starring Leo Woodall, Havana Rose Liu, and Dustin Hoffman, directed by Oscar-winner Daniel Roher.

Trailer:

https://youtu.be/rdlOZhl-nSA?si=fl-EMvv72dK-vdFS

Synopsis:

With his once-promising musical career over, he works across New York with his mentor Harry Horowitz (Academy Award-winner Dustin Hoffman), encountering a range of characters, including composition student Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu), with whom he forges an unexpected connection. Niki’s safecracking work threatens his budding romance with Ruthie and pulls him into increasingly dangerous territory. Blending romance, drama, and the taut suspense of a heist thriller, Tuner also features performances from Tony Award®-winner Tovah Feldshuh, Lior Raz, with Jean Reno.

Thank you :)

Shrek 25th 4DX

To those who’ve seen it: How are the effects? Top Gun in 4DX was a blast, but Michael was lackluster in my opinion, so I’m wondering where Shrek lands between the 2. And also, does the Buy 2 Get 1 deal also apply at the kiosk? The auditorium is rather empty, so I want to shave off the $7 booking fee.

Thank Gawd 'In The Grey' didn't win the 5 times in a row vote

Because it was boooring. Most boring choices for the camera, most boring choices for the music, most boring voiceover (that feels like it goes for tens of minutes at a time)

I'm a big fan of Guy Ritchie's other failed franchise starters: Operation: Fortune - Ruse de Guerre & The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

But those films had oxygen in their chest & a beat in their heart

This film just felt like "paycheck, pleaaaase"

And no shame to the cast & crew. This is the most I've been disappointed with a Ritchie flick since Aladdin

If this was the winner for the 5 films in a row (and it nearly was), I would have been falling asleep by viewing 2 <-- which is also my rating. 2/5

My only happiness in seeing it today is it basically being free & there's now no chance of me spending money to watch it in the future

If you enjoyed the film, I am so sorry to yuck your yum and ignore me completely 🍸

Mandalorian patch

I saw if you see the Mandalorian in IMAX Friday you get a patch. what if you see it tomorrow? also I'm curious if it's for all premium formats or just IMAX. I'm going to 4DX tomorrow and hopefully will get one. I was told by a local promotions guy that if you see it in a premium format on Thursday they had a gift. I'm curious if this is what he was talking about.

Advanced screening 3D tix bought weeks ago, but...

TL;DR should I forego my advance 3D tix for Mandalorian & Grogu to see Passenger on advanced opening day?

So I have advanced screening tickets for the mandalorian & grogu in 3D tomorrow evening, Thursday May 21st, but Passenger is opening that day as well. And I didn't know that!!

So now I want to go see that movie, even though it's not getting great reviews, instead of "baby yoda." I don't know what to do. I know I can see both of them numerous times because of regal unlimited, but I really want to see the horror movie versus Grogu, kwim?

I may have just answered my own question. And I'll see how I feel tomorrow after work.

I apologize if I shouldn't post this here, but I really like the regal unlimited FAM and appreciate their input very much :)

Thank you guys 🩷🩷

I'm not a Regal unlimited member yet but planning on signing up. I know that there are some posts that tell you how to use the gift card for payment but I wanted to ask if anyone knows if I can use the gift card to pay for the initial 3 month upfront membership? TIA!

Do you think that Regal will do themed weeks throughout the summer in place of the classics series?

I think we’ve all given up hope for a June series, but do you think they’ll do something like the UFO series once a month throughout the summer? It seems like it would be a nice middle ground of keeping the series without having to dedicate screens to it every day.

(I do think the UFO series was hugely mishandled and borderline buried though, and would love to see them pivot to an earlier showtime if they continue.)

Has Regal Ever Done This To You?

I always get excited when I see early morning showtimes since I'm a day sleeper and it allows me to get a double or triple feature in instead of a single. I had a nice triple all lined up for Friday when all of a sudden I get an email notification about a refund that I never requested.

I went on the app to see what was going on and this (screenshot) is what I saw. Ive had unlimited for just under a year and never had this happen. Is this a common occurrence? Did a manager just decide they didnt like the idea of getting up early?

Power Ballad

I’m wondering if anyone has managed to get a ticket for tonight? It seems like it’s only available through email, and the app won’t work for booking.
