A Dracula October

Every October I binge horror movies and books, this year I'm going a strict dracula theme, after seeing the 1992 coppola film last night at regal.

watching or rewatching the OG, the 1958, 1970, 1979, 2024, and 2025. what other straight adaptations...

after finishing them I'll branch out to stuff like Renefield, the last voyage of detemer, etc...

How do people not cite The War Wagon more?

John Wayne and Kirk Douglas. Awesome film that I randomly recorded on a channel that plays old movies

“Mine hit the ground first.”

”Mine was taller.”

Question about the sirens scene

Why is it the sirens‘ song is supposed to lure you to their island…which we see happen to one crew member. He looks ecstatic as he leaps into the water…yet odysseus is in agony and pain. why the discrepancy?

Is this the most annoying thing you hear regularly?

“oh he’s friendly.”

Oh really? Is that why he’s been barking aggressive at me and won’t let me pass him? Why do people even leave their dogs off leash in the front yard anyway? I can understand if you didn’t have a backyard but the houses I delivered to have big backyards. So why?

i’m sorry, but a friendly dog doesn’t bark at me and wags their tail happily as I approach. Your dog might be friendly too YOU but I’m not you.

and while I’m venting, what the fuck is up with these bike riders lately? Today I saw two flocks of old men totally taken up the lane on the highway as they all pointed the left a signal they’re turning onto another highway. So many freaking bike riders on the highway like bro why just why?

Labor Day weekend recap

so after work Saturday night, I finally saw CoyotevsAcme. I was a little letdown only because everybody was raving about how great this film was. And I agree it is a good film. I guess I just expected a little bit more? But it was still good with very good uplifting ending and a lot of nostalgia. B+

Next up almost immediately after was Onslaught. The timing just worked out perfect I didn’t even have to leave the theater. The synopsis sounded cool as hell and there was no reason not to see it. Another good film, certainly a unique action kind of horror/survival movie. This one also a B+

So starting Sunday after the gym, I saw the sun never sets. The main reason I saw this is it had positive reviews, it had mentions of beautiful shots of the Alaskan landscape, and the theater was empty. All those things made it worth going to see. Definitely a good little independent kind of drama. I only fully didn’t love this film because there were several instances where the characters made decisions that I felt just were not logical. But for the most part, it was pretty clever. Dakota Fanning is awesome and it was a really strong script, again except for a few minor points. A solid B.

Sunday night I saw the three hour epic Malayam film I’m game. like many of the Indian films I’ve seen this one was loud, really loud, and feature several songs, montages, and frantic editing. That seems to be typical of these Bollywood films. It went from being suspenseful to romantic to comedic to suspenseful again. Lots of shooting lots of killing lots of revenge lots of bad guys getting their justice. I’ll give this one an A-

So today on Labor Day first up was A Silent Voice. The film looked great and actually has several layers relating to the themes, but it went on far too long at the end. Could’ve been higher rated, but because I felt it dragged on way too much I’m giving it a B-

Finally, we watched By Any Means. Mark Wahlberg plays a typical tough guy, and it’s a movie setup we’ve seen many times; two distinctly different characters, one a law abiding officer and one not so much, team up. Of course their differences complement each other in getting the job done. Has some historical basis. Main theme is racism in the south in the 1960s. It didn’t try to be deeper than it was, two main performances were pretty good, and this is a solid if typical sort of action movie. Another B-

hope y’all had a good weekend

Would this be considered an XL or prime theater?

Since my theater has an IMAX and Dolby, they don’t specify any other screen types. But this is a huge auditorium with a huge screen.

I’m just wondering why this isn’t labeled as a prime or XL

Now that was a good time

Even though I have A list and could have opted to see Akira in IMAX, I’ll totally take a regular laser showing with this huge auditorium all to myself. Awesome.

The Most Extreme Koontz Novel?

Gotta be this one right? I read it years and years ago but I do recall it being a fairly nasty piece of work

Awesome crowd today for Harry Potter 6

Because I’ve complained about the opposite, I wanna give a big shout out to everyone who saw Harry Potter 6 at my local theater today. About 12-16 people (maybe 7-8 groups of 2 people together), and no one made a peep. Beautiful stuff.

Don’t sleep on Black Evening by David Morrell

Billed as tales of dark suspense, this collection contains some very fine writing with some very dark suspense indeed. multiple award winners in horror. Multiple novella-length stories as well. A very fine collection.

How do you decide between first person in third person limited?

i’ve been reading a short story collection lately and there’s stories set from one point of view, sometimes first person and sometimes third person. Is there a reason that one needs to be chosen over the other?

Is it something to be decided before the story? Could you honestly tell the same story using either one? Can you describe a character’s thoughts in the third person similarly to a first person POV?

Christopher Snow First Editions

I kind of like their simple designs. Nice books. I also have a suspicion that Dean has long ago finished the third novel, but plans to release it posthumously as little treat to fans. I mean the guy cranks out novels like it’s nothing, surely he’s managed to write a third entry in this beloved series?
