Looking for a mentor or experienced partner in the AI automation space — been building n8n workflows for months but struggling to find my niche and first client

Hey everyone,

I've been in the AI automation space for a few months now. I build n8n workflows, work with Claude API, and I understand the technical side reasonably well — things like document intake via Telegram bots, AI classification, CRM integrations with Notion, automated email digests with AI-drafted reply suggestions, that kind of stuff.

But here's where I'm stuck:

I can build the thing. I just don't know what to build for whom.

Every time I try to pick a niche, I second-guess myself. Is it worth specializing in local service businesses? Healthcare admin? E-commerce? I've been going back and forth and it's costing me time I don't have.

I'm not looking for someone to hand me clients. I'm looking for someone who's been through this phase — someone who went from "I can build automations" to "I have 3 paying clients and a clear offer" — and is willing to share what that transition actually looked like.

Ideally someone who:

Has built and sold AI automation services (n8n, Make, Zapier — doesn't matter the tool)

Is based in Europe or at least familiar with the DACH market (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)

Is open to a mentoring relationship, revenue share, or just an honest exchange

I'm serious about this. I work on this every day. I'm not looking for shortcuts — just direction from someone who's already made the mistakes I'm about to make.

If you've been here, I'd love to hear from you. Drop a comment or DM me.

Thanks

Hey everyone, I'm new to the AI space and looking for direction — where should I specialize to eventually go independent?

What's up, Reddit. I've been getting more and more into AI over the past few months and honestly, I'm hooked. Watching this space grow in real time is fascinating, and I genuinely believe there's massive potential here — not just for big companies, but for individuals who move early and smart.

I've already started tinkering. Built my first small agents that pull news and send updates to Telegram, which was a cool intro — but I'm aware that's still pretty surface-level and not really a monetizable use case on its own.

Here's where I'm at: I want to go all in on this. Short term, I want to build actual skills and maybe land some freelance work or small clients. Long term, I want to be fully independent — running my own thing, making my own money through AI-related services or products.

I just don't know where to focus. There's so much out there — automation, AI agents, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, AI consulting for local businesses, building SaaS tools... it's overwhelming to know where to start when you want to go from "hobbyist" to "this is how I make money."

So I'm asking: what would you focus on if you were starting fresh right now with the goal of going independent within 1–2 years?

Any tips, personal experiences, or just a nudge in the right direction would mean a lot. Thanks in advance 🙏

Lieber auf Deutsch..?

Was geht, Reddit.
