saddest scene in all of the books

The elf's eyes found him, and his lips trembled with the effort to form words.

"Harry...Potter..."

And then with a little shudder the elf became quite still, and his eyes were nothing more than great glassy orbs, sprinkled with light from the stars they could not see.”

Are wizards aware of muggle evolutionary theory?

Horace Slughorn in book six says "I really don't know where you get these brain waves, my boy...unless — — it's just your mother's genes coming out in you!"

The word gene only entered English in 1911. Muggle to wizard interactions are, of course, limited. For example, wizards only recently adopted plumbing, and they still have no concept of electricity despite electricity being used by muggles since the 1800s.

It is also possible that Horace Slughorn is, like Dumbledore, of great erudition and therefore has read up on muggle topics most wizards don't care much about.

It is also possible he doesn't know the muggle signification of the word gene in the way it relates to DNA or Darwin. What do you guys think?

Evil Hagrid plot twist

Hagrid is accidentally knocked out by grawp in the final battle of Hogwarts. suddenly Voldemort collapses; his face stricken with horror. He has been imperiused for 55 years.

Didn't Harry ever think it was odd Hagrid was the first one to reach his parents house?

Didnt Hagrid admit to Harry he could fly -- the mark of a dark wizard -- the first day they met?

Wasn't Hagrid there to imperius Quirrell and force him to rob Gringotts?

Didn't Hagrid have a run in with Voldemort when studious Tom Riddle wanted to end his reign of terror? Poor orphan Riddle.

Didnt Hagrid express seer capabilities when he tells Harry he can feel that he'll win the Triwizard Cup?

Of course Hagrid leaked the date they'd move Potter, but he didn't mention the plan of seven since he wanted his faithful death eaters to kill every last order member.

Do you think Voldemort was shocked Snape managed to kill Dumbledore

Dumbledore was essentially unbeatable, the fact that Draco Malfoy of all people managed to disarm him and Snape kill him was extremely unlikely. I mean the whole point of the plot was to punish the Malfoy's by giving their son an impossible task. It's said multiple times in book 6 that Voldemort had no faith in Draco's ability to actually kill Dumbledore. In one of these passages it is mentioned Voldemort may want Snape to be the backup attempt. Snape was a skilled wizard but Voldemort must have known he would be no match for Dumbledore.

If I was Voldemort I would have been suspicious that Draco could have so easily disarmed him. Now, a counterargument might be that Dumbledore was weakened and Madame Rosmerta knew this, but she was quickly un-imperiused by the ministry that same night, so she probably couldn't have told the death eaters?

Anyway, the books sort of skip Voldemort's reaction and just show him favoring Snape at the beginning of book 7.

Voldemort's most likely reaction was probably deep shock and maybe even disbelief at first, but perhaps some of the death eaters at the top of the tower related how Dumbledore was in a weakened state, and this would act as sufficient explanation for Voldemort. He would have not exactly have punished Draco for his failed attempt because after all he did get the death eaters into the castle and disarmed Dumbledore. Voldemort may have been impressed by Snape at first if he had imagined a duel, after learning of the helplessness of Dumbledore, however, his biggest emotion was probably an increase in trust for Snape, and also a need to honor Snape, considering the rest of the death eaters were probably in awe of him.

Did Umbridge ever set homework?

I can't remember she ever set any, it seems like the entirety of the class was just reading. Which was lucky for Harry and the DA since it would have been twice the courseload for them
