Would my fishy previous part time job raise some eyebrows?

Hey everybody, hope this post finds you all well.

Currently busting my chops trying to network with departments early (19) to give myself some good chances. I posted on here previously asking for some advice and got some great tips that I have been following.

My background is clean minus a traffic ticket and my work history is pretty good and I’ve been at my current job for almost 2 years. but there’s a stain that concerns me and I’ve gotten some eyebrows for.

Last year i was working my current security job as a part timer since full time slots were not available, and I wanted to stack some extra side money to fund my apartment move in costs. So I mass applied to a ton of easy low effort part time positions in my local area things like janitorial, cashiering, gas stations etc just to pad my time.

Got a job offer at a vape shop and said sure, “I’m sure they’ll just have me wiping floors and cleaning counters since I’m obviously not vending age for tobacco products.” I said to myself. Decent pay too 15/hr for 6 hour shifts in the morning and minimal effort on my end.

Went in and interviewed and all seemed pretty normal at the time. Took the job (I was apparently the only guy to ever come to an interview in a suit and tie at that place. Red flag in retrospect) and worked there for about 3 months, over that time they kept trying to push me towards shady business practices that I just could not support. I,e they wanted me to work in a marijuana grow house which I swiftly declined and got very antsy about the entire place, and I left without notice feeling that it was entirely unrelated and dangerous towards not only my safety but also my career goals. And to disclose this now, I do not consume marijuana.

My concern is about how this would reflect on me, especially knowing that I cannot rely on that place as a source of reference on any background checks into my work history.

Thoughts?

Possible union reference. Should I jump on it?

Hey everyone. So I’m currently 19 working security for a high rise tower in the Midwest. I’ve been in the gig for almost two years now out of highschool, but it’s not really where my ambitions are and I’ve been considering jumping on a trade and elevators sound highly intriguing to me. Always loved learning about them from the techs who pass through the building every now and then.

The chief tech and I get along very well and he told me all about how he got started and how tough it was to get his foot in the door in the first place, and we’ve chit chatted about the trades here and there. I did some carpentry and electrical while working on a ranch as a teenager and he encouraged me to look into the elevator union because of how far it’s taken him and how it turned into a great career for him.

He’s been with the union for almost 30 years and I was wondering if it would be worth it to take a chance on asking him to be a possible reference or to point me in the right directions to possibly get my head in the game, but I’m not sure if that’s a good decision because it would be him referencing me as a worker for a company that he contracts for.

Good idea? Or forget it?

Thanks.

Waiver pushed back for a year. What to do?

Hello everyone. I’ve posted on here a few times throughout the duration of my recruitment process. So my waivers got pushed back for a year on ADHD meds. For context I had two years off and they wanted three, I’m currently 19 turning 20 in July.

I went really hardcore on getting papers in order and letters of recommendation from reputable references and got a note from a former adult APRN that said “in my professional medical opinion X is fit for the stresses and duties of military living and see no reason as to why X would be unfit for service.” And the lists of previous appointment logs that confirm that therapy treatment was effective to the degree to make my previous diagnosis null. I told my recruiter to give me some extra time to get a letter from my PEDS APRN which was scheduled soon. But he sent out my documents to the board before that appointment could take place and I got a 1 year DQ before I could go get my professional eval and he said that I couldn’t submit an appeal.

My question is A. Would it be worth trying to appeal earlier with extra documentation B. Is this sort of thing common? Let alone something I could overcome.

My recruiter basically cold shouldered me and said I’m SOL till next March. But im not sure if theres anything I could on my side to make things a little smoother, I passed through MEPS without an instant DQ and even the onsite representative seemed hopeful for my prospects aswell as some buddies I already have who are in guard. Not trying to sound like a dipshit but just got my hopes really high and feel a little dazed and confused.

Many thanks.

Hey everybody hope this post finds you well.

For some pretext i am 19 and the son of 25 year sheriffs office veteran and have spent the better part of the last few years pursuing a career in law enforcement. Unfortunately my old man passed away before I got to ask him some of the more pressing career questions that have come along as I have gotten older. But I have made efforts to get certifications in firearms handling, my CO license, BLS, first aid, telecom license and a few other assorted helpful certifications and training in the field while still young.

I moved away from the town where my dad worked and where I knew a lot of the veteran officers on the department, sadly that part of the state is in sharp population and financial decline and I decided to chase better economic opportunity closer to the cities.

But with this I am kind of at a loss at how I could begin to build bridges and positive connections with the departments around my area and was wondering what the best thing I could do to get atleast my name on paper or in good graces while still pre academy age eligibility.

What sort of things could help out? Charity work? Community service? Anything that may promote my credibility and character would be great and allow me to meet more people. Any ideas or advice?

Thanks for all that you great officers do out there.

Hello everybody. This is my third post so far on my recruitment process so far. So I wrapped up my MEPS about two-ish weeks ago and passed through the physical health section just fine as expected and didn’t even need a waiver for my vision like I thought I would, thankfully enough. But I did get flagged on some psych stuff on my record including some adhd, anxiety and depression stuff from my early teenage years which has already been treated.

Inbetween that time and about 3 days ago I sent my recruiter six letters of recommendation I received from teachers, current guard members, veterans and employers, as-well as a note from a psych APRN that briefly explained that i am fit for duty and should have no issue dealing with the military lifestyle/training/combat stressors.

But I let my recruiter know before he submitted my papers that I had an appointment set with my prior PEDS psych doctor who I was seeing during the times of prior diagnosis’ just to get an all clear letter from him before things got submitted but he submitted them two weeks prior to my set appointment.

I’m curious if this could jam a nail into my process and slow it down. Would I still be able to send over those papers or would it even make a difference here.

If anybody has some answers or just general thoughts on this please feel free to leave a comment or pm me.

Thanks.
