PayPal / Meta Ads payment issue
I had a PayPal account linked to my Facebook ad account for a long time and spent well into 6 figures through it without issues. Then one day Meta suddenly asked for “payment method verification” like it was a credit card verification process.
Problem is: the payment method was PayPal, not a card, so obviously the verification flow didn’t work properly.
I removed the PayPal account thinking I could just reconnect it, but ever since then I’ve been completely unable to add it back.
What’s weird is:
The entire PayPal linking process works
I can log into PayPal
Authorize Meta
Everything appears successful
But right at the very end Facebook just throws a generic error and the payment method never gets added.
I’ve spent hours with both Meta support and PayPal support and neither side has been able to fix it or even explain what’s causing it.
Tried:
Different browsers/devices
Clearing cache/cookies
Different ad accounts/business managers
Removing/re-adding billing permissions
PayPal confirmed there are no restrictions on their side
Still nothing.
Did anyone ever solve this? Was it some hidden risk flag/payment integrity issue on Meta’s side or is the PayPal integration just broken?
