For years before my diagnosis of endometriosis I used scolding hot water bottles and a wired TENS machine. I've personally found TENs helps for pain relief and I still use them till this day 5 surgeries later.
I'm just writing this to help anyone that's interested. I understand all these devices can be a big spend and I didn't know what to get when I was looking. I also understand that none of these will fix this horrible disease, it just may give some relief.
So I've tried the following.
My Oovi v1, Beurer EM55 & Fem-Ova Medfit.
I've owned and used all three devices, so I thought I'd share my experience to help anyone trying to decide between them. I also bought for a friend the Beyou TENs and it looked very similar to My Oovi v1. I did not try this tho.
My Oovi v1 (Original)
Owned since 2022 and it's still going strong.
Paid £59.99 (2022)
Myoovi device connects to the sticky replaceable "butterfly" pad via a popper connection on the back of the device.
Likes: >Wireless TENS device >Rechargeable via Micro-USB >Lightweight, thin and very discreet >Silent (no beeps) >Multiple intensity levels >You can choose your favourite TENS mode and stay on it (my favourite feature) >Very flexible, leather-like electrode pad >Replaceable gel pads that last for many uses >Very long treatment time (well over an hour) >Excellent battery life >Decent surface area
Dislikes: >No heat function
Beurer EM55
Paid £56.20 (Amazon deal)
Beurer mains is all attached you just replace the gel pads.
Likes: >Wireless TENS device, >TENS and heat can be used together or separately, >Heat is soothing, >Excellent build quality, >Very strong adhesive on the pads, >Large silicone-style electrode pad, >Replaceable gel pads, >Decent cover area,
Dislikes: >Uses its own charger rather than USB-C, >Only one heat setting (I'd prefer it a hotter), >Cycles through all the TENS modes—you can't stay on your favourite one, >Beeps whenever you turn it on/off or press buttons, >Beeps continuously to tell you the battery is low, it could draw attention if out in public, >20-minute timer is quite short, >Battery lasts about 5-6 uses x 20mins, >Replacing the gel pads looks like it could be a bit fiddly, >The middle mains could have been designed more discreetly.
Fem-Ova Medfit
Paid £29.95 (Amazon deal)
Fem-Ova device connects to the sticky replaceable pad via a magnetic connection on the back of the device.
Likes: >Wireless TENS device, >Rechargeable via USB-C, >Heat and TENS can be used together, >Silent (no beeps), >Choice of 30 or 60-minute sessions, >Lightweight,
Dislikes:
>Like the Beurer, it cycles through the TENS modes rather than letting you stay on one, >Thin plastic-style electrode pad, >Covers small area, >In my experience, the adhesive wasn't very durable. Mine started lifting after the second use, which is why I returned it, >The heated centre caused a slight red patch on my skin, >I wasn't keen on the feel or quality of the electrode pad compared with the My Oovi, >Bumps out, could have been more flush.
My Thoughts
Currently my favourite is still the My Oovi v1. However a normal TENS would do the same job. Just may not be as discreet.
The battery lasts ages, the treatment sessions are much longer than the others, and I love being able to choose exactly which TENS mode I want rather than cycling through them. It's also incredibly thin, silent and discreet—I’ve worn it out in public many times and nobody has noticed. I have checked and at the moment it doesn't look you can buy the original My Oovi. They are advertising their My Oovi 2.0, I believe this beeps, the adhesive is a thicker silicone material and also cycles through TENS modes. I did think of getting the My Oovi 2 but the Beurer EM55 was cheaper.
If the Fem-Ova Medfit had better-quality adhesive and a nicer electrode pad, I probably would have kept it because I liked having the heat, and the price was very good.
I'm currently using the Beurer EM55. The overall quality feels excellent and the adhesive is incredibly strong. I just wish the heat was a bit hotter, the timer was longer than 20 minutes, longer battery life, and it didn't beep every time you press a button.
I've also ordered the My Obi Apollo because I like the idea of not needing sticky adhesive pads. Once I've had chance to test it properly, I'll happily post a comparison if anyone is interested.
If anyone has any questions about any of these devices, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help!
