Is it worth it to do strength training while losing weight? (aside from maintaining muscle)
I'm currently around 170lb and I'm about 5'9-5'10. I've been on HRT for awhile and I'm trying to get down to 145lb-150lb to help pass more by looking tinier.
I also haaaate hate hate my current body comp (love handles, back fat, etc.). I've been jumping back and forth on strength training and just hard calorie deficits because 1) I still want to be at a deficit so I can lose fat but also work on muscle then 2) after a week or two of consistency realize that it might not be possible to build reasonable muscle while losing fat (a lot of conflicting info online) and that it makes progress feel much more slower. I'm not sure if I'm just skinny fat and look more overweight than I actually am, if I just need to cut hard for another few months and then start working out after, or if I need to do both at the same time.
Does anyone have any advice for my situation? And what my calories should be if I plan on continuing to try to build muscle while in a deficit to lose fat?
