this might be why financial aid is gone
Per U.S. Department of Education regulations & OBBBA, federal financial aid will only pay for classes that directly count toward your officially declared degree or certificate program.

If you enroll in a class that isn’t required for your major/minor/certificate requirements, that class won't count toward your financial aid enrollment status (e.g., if you take 12 credits but 3 credits don't count toward your degree, financial aid views you as part-time at 9 credits). Your financial aid award will be prorated or completely canceled.
If you like taking random electives for fun, just keep in mind you might have to pay out of pocket for them if they don't fit into your major's track!
