Needing advice!!

Needing advice!!

this is my boy laszlo. he is about ten months old and was just diagnosed with FeLV today. i’ve been so overwhelmed the past few hours so i apologize if some of these questions are silly/basic information.
not looking for medical advice or further diagnosis!! i was just hoping to hear some others’ experiences or suggestions to better understand what to talk about with our vet.

we found out at an urgent care vet as we were there for unrelated reasons. we were there for a small injury on his foot, and i decided to ask about the test because we recently found out his brother had it (we do not own his brother)

we got a pamphlet from the urgent care and we’re making an appointment with his primary vet, but until we can get that appointment i was just curious from other people’s experience:

  1. is there a way to know what stage he is in? from the outside he seems perfectly normal other than an occasional slightly puffy eye (we were told before that was allergies)

  2. is there anything to be done to ease the severity of FeLV if we catch it early enough? i know there’s sadly not an instant cure

  3. is there any way to generally predict how long i might have with my boy? i’m sure this relates to stage. as i said, he seems so happy and healthy that it was quite a shock. some information online says two years, but i don’t want to get my hopes up if he could instantly take a turn for the worst. i don’t understand how fast FeLV work

i appreciate anyone who has any advice, even if it’s tips or thoughts beyond these questions! thank you, i wish everyone and their kitties the best 💗
