Trusted a ‘bhaiya’ in Delhi and lost lakhs at 19

I genuinely think Delhi changed me in the worst possible way.

I came here for college, knew almost nobody, and ended up living with a guy I randomly met through connections. He acted like a big brother to me for months. Used to say he works at American Express, knows people, does business deals, helps students get opportunities etc. Slowly slowly I started trusting him with everything.

First it was internship money. Then college fee money. Then helping him in “temporary problems”. Then even ordering a phone for him on EMI because he kept saying he’ll pay monthly. My friend also trusted him and gave money. My mama gave money for booking a car through Spinny because this guy said he’d handle everything.

Long story short: the car was never booked.

Over months this guy kept giving dates:
“1 hour”
“raat tak”
“kal”
“payment initiate ho gaya”
“credit nahi hua”

Same loop for MONTHS.

He even took my gold chain once saying he’ll return it after a party and disappeared with it for weeks. Somehow I managed to get that back later.

Now when pressure increased and families got involved, he started avoiding calls, blocking WhatsApp, emotionally manipulating, then again acting innocent saying “trust me bhai”.

The worst part isn’t even the money anymore. It’s the mental damage. I stopped attending classes properly, attendance got ruined, family got disappointed, and I genuinely started feeling like my life is collapsing at 19 because I trusted the wrong people.

I have all transaction proofs, chats, repayment promises, IDs, everything documented. Around lakhs are involved overall and only partial money was ever returned in many months.

I know people will say “how could you trust someone like this?” Honestly idk either. I think when you move to a new city alone and someone makes you feel emotionally safe, you stop thinking logically.

Now I’m just trying to recover mentally, save college, and never repeat this mistake again.

If anyone has genuine advice about handling situations like this legally/financially in India, I’d appreciate it.
