If You Ever Feel Useless, Just Remember...

That canonically, Pankratops has a 0% success rate in popping an opponent's card with its iconic effect.

In the anime, G Golem Invalid Dolmen turned out to be immune to the opponent's monster effects, forcing Onizuka to resort to using Pankratops as mere Link fodder in order to make a monster strong enough to swing over Dolmen. Whilst in the OCG Structures manga, Ohza Akaboshi attempted to use Pankratops to destroy Shoma's Magikey Mechmortar - Garesglasser, but Shoma Chained Gareglasser's own effect, negating Pankratops due to Shoma possessing two monsters in his GY with the same Attribute as Pankratops.

That was all of Pankratops' major appearances, not counting minor stuff like when it was in Onizuka's hand on the last Turn of his rematch against Playmaker but he didn't use it. So yeah, between the anime and manga, Dinowrestlers can't catch a break. At least Pankratops managed to enjoy a while of success in the IRL Meta, even if it seems to have been powercrept by better cards like Fenrir. I wonder if DW ever gets Legacy Support, if they'll be made to work better with Pankratops, or if they'll go the Sacred Beasts route and reboot the Archetype, with Pankratops being kept as a generic staple.

Shout-Out To Fusion Monsters That Use Link Monsters As Material

Doing a rewatch of VRAINS, making my way through Season 2 and by far one of the hype inducing moments is whenever the show's signature Link monsters are used as material to summon the O.G extra deck monsters - Fusions. It definitely felt the most organic of all the other summoning mechanics they brought back in Season 2, since Link monsters don't have levels they couldn't normally be used as Overlay Units or as Tuners (until Yummy anyways). And you always knew something awesome was about to go down when you see the card the heroes drew was a fusion spell.

I really do dig the fact that they've been bringing the concept back lately with some of the recent VRAINS legacy support with both Onizuka's Gouki and Revolver's Borrel archetypes both getting their own version of this gimmick (the last two images if you were curious).

Which was your favorite Fusion monster that appeared in VRAINS?

What's a Deck That You Are Surprised Hasn't Gotten a Link-1 Yet?

Inspired by a discussion I had earlier about the distribution of Link-1's throughout the Vrains anime, I was looking through the list of the 67 currently printed Link-1's and I was surprised that quite a few decks you might think would have a Link-1 don't in fact possess one.

Keeping within the anime, the biggest offender for me would be Onizuka, he ran two different decks between seasons 1 and 2 - Gouki and Dinowrestler respectively, and both are conspicuously lacking a Link-1 which would be a massive consistency boost to both decks. I can't tell you how many times my attempts to special summon a second Gouki monster was negated and I am left defenseless because I can't Link away my normal summon and start triggering the endless searching that the Gouki archetype specializes in.

It's especially baffling since Gouki only received legacy support last year, and yet Sheik which could have easily have been a Link-1, was made a Link-2 instead. However, given how the new Gouki Fusion monster and the Continuous Spell both try to tie Gouki together with Dinowrestlers, I have a sneaking suspicion that Konami has the baffling idea of wanting you to have some kind of mixed deck and that when DW gets its legacy support, they'll reveal a Link-1 that acts as both a Gouki *and* DW monster (similar to how "Trickstar Aqua Angel" is always treated as a "Marincess" card because Aoi Zaizen ran both decks in the anime).

Anyways that was just one example of a deck (well two actually) that in an almost decade of Link monsters, I was surprised by the lack of a Link-1. What about you guys, which deck do you think is missing a Link-1?

I know we were all surprised by the fact that Beyond the Brave's cover theme was not in fact Jaden Yuki and Neos/Neospacian reboot, but rather Joey Wheeler and his Battle City deck reimagined.

Now that got me thinking, what if the second anime legacy support also followed in the footsteps of Chaos Origins and had another prominent GX villain get their old deck reimagined? Who would you want to see among the options, another main antagonist like Season 4's Darkness, or to stick with expanding Kagemaru's Shadow Riders from Season 1?

For me, I would definitely be interested in seeing Camula get a reboot of her old Vampire deck. It always bothered me that despite being one of the most memorable Shadow Riders (tied with Amnael for the most duels with the Spirit Key holders), her original line-up is so weak, and to add insult to injury Vampires later became an Xyz/Link focused deck. Therefore it would be so cool to see her deck follow Kagemaru's and the Sacred Beasts. You could stick "Infernal" in front of the names of the retrained monsters (e.g Infernal Vampire Lord) in reference to Camula using the (anime-only) field spell "Infernalvania". Also cool would be to give her original ace Vampire Genesis the Neos Wiseman treatment, whereby you retrain it into a Fusion monster and if it gets destroyed you special summon the original ignoring its summoning conditions. Lastly you could also go the Shining Sarc route and have the monsters gain extra effects if Illusion Gate is in your GY since that card played such a huge role in Camula's duels.

Anyways, that was my example. What about you, what would your dream pick be for the second anime legacy support slot?
