Books with gallow humor

Can someone please recommend me some books (indies preferably, but I'll take anything) where there's a lot of sass, light-hearted sarcasm, good banter, and all-round gallow humor?

I'm talking about staring at a dangerous situation, main cast is clearly outnumbered/outgunned, and someone goes "I knew I should've worn my lucky underwear this morning!" only to be shut down with a snappy, "Shut it, Jack. I'd like to actually make it to my bed tonight!"

Checked out a handful of sci-fi military & space operas but the atmosphere was pretty stiff and formal. I want less "Sir! Yes, Sir!" and more of "Ayyyye! That's what I'm talkin' about Cap!"

Bonus points if it has my all-time favorite trope of a good ol' ragtag team!

Edit: Thank you everyone! I have tons of good recs now to last me the rest of this month! I really appreciate it! Life sucks sometimes, and I like how these characters deal with their situations. It always gives me a good laugh.

I fell for a jury duty scam...

I need to call again later, they're out on lunch I believe.

A couple weeks ago I signed and sent back the Jury Summons form. It asked for an SSN and normally I'm pretty diligent about this stuff and I was just so flustered with work and everything else. I filled it. I stuffed my State Summons form in and mailed it out as proof requesting for excusal (I had just served state jury 2 months prior). They emailed me back weeks later saying I'm excused.

I DID fill state and federal availability questionnaires around the same time btw (months ago). I do know the 2 courts don't talk to each other either.

Therefore the federal Summons looked legit. I'm an idiot. I ALWAYS question SSN stuff. I didnt until today someone said something about jury duty scam....

I am afraid I may have fallen for it. While I wait for their lunch to be over. Where do I start if it is a scam? What have I lost handing over my SSN? Bank accounts? My house/mortgage? Tax fraud...? What do I lock down? I've been working so much OT and have not slept well so this on top of everything, I think I'm going to hurl...

UPDATE: I finally called them as soon as my work meeting ended. I confirmed the phone on the official court site too. She reassured me yes, it's real. They do ask for the SSN on the form, even read me the number line it was in the form. She also confirmed receiving my excusal letter. I'm still feeling sick, like I dodged some bullet...(I am STILL skeptical to be honest...).

BIG lesson learned. Real or not, I am calling next time FIRSR before filling my precious SSN in, even if the form looks official. Thank you all ❤️

Exploring page layouts

I love A6 size but it just felt too small. However recently I have seen people write by just turning the page and suddenly A6 becomes a full ~A5 size.

Suddenly my journals feel so much more portable!

I'm coming to a close with my current B6 journal. I know I have about a 100 pages left, but last month I wrote 120 pages so I don't think Overture is going to last me through September...

I decided to revisit the A6 size since I had a half filled travel journal ready to go. Am loving it though it just feels wasteful if I skip a row but cramped if I don't. I'm exploring other journal methods today including cross-writing. I neat write neater to make my cross-writing more legible but I was pleasantly surprised I could read it at all. How fun!

Trying to use all of my mini journals that I whim purchased

I purchased these on a whim, a stack of 40ish random A6 journals off Amazon. The intention was turning them into mini unit notebooks to study with. "Flashcards...but fancier!"

3 pages into 1, I realized I hate studying this way. Moved into type notes.

One has become a tester for landscape format journaling. Now I have to find a use for the 38 other journals 🥲

Which handwriting suits a 5mm grid best?

I use a 4mm to journal, but have a 5mm notebook as my planner. I estimate finishing my current journal in fall and was planning on getting another 5mm journal to match my planner, but my journal "font" looks jarring and empty in 5mm 😅

Come fall, if I don't get another 4mm journal and swap back to 5mm, which font would look best?

Things to know about gouache as a complete beginner?

I recently have gotten into watercolor via a dollar store set (ya know the ones with the lil red brushes). Loved it, added a pop to my otherwise text only journals (Tomoe River paper).

I was cleaning out my closet and found an entire unopened set of gouache paint, a gift from a friend from 5 years ago. The aluminum hasn't even been peeled yet.

I'd love to actually use it once my dollar palette runs out, but know nothing about this paint except I heard once it molds easily? I can look for beginner videos, but what are some small tips you might not pick up in those gouache 101s?

Things like best practice of storing (I always airdry my watercolor set, sometimes an hour or 4, before closing the container, does that help the molding?). Small things like, for example, I've used acrylics plenty of times before but only in free art corners at libraries so I never see how acrylic behaves long term. I just clean up my station after a quick 45 session. I only recently found out acrylic is plastic paint and once it dries on your palette it can't really be wet again in the same manner as watercolor. Does the same happen to gouache?

EDIT: My set is the kind in little pots! There is a bottom much alike chicken nugget sauce haha where once you peel the top aluminum off, it's just open forever.

Last night's Radio Hour

Every night (usually midnight), if I'm up to it, I treat myself to Radio Hour. I live in a chaotic household and during the day, work is constantly on fire. Radio Hour ensures I have one solid quiet time frame just for myself. It's me time.

Radio Hour comes with an LED light, on the warm lights setting, and of course a handheld portable radio tuned to news. At that hour, it's usually BBC news. This is last night's Radio Hour.

Jan through May via the One Day One Page journal, outfitted with chipboards turning it from paperback into hardcover and then covered over with glittery contact paper. Appropriately named the journal: Disco!

Onto #9. Swan Song: The Overture is the name of this journal. I'm trying to figure out the best way to utilize this 4mm square.

2nd Token Request across 2 emails??

I have 3 main emails (gmails) and 2 Microsoft accounts.

Yesterday night someone tried to get into my Notion from account 1 which is my blog's email. I deleted it and checked security in Gmail. Nobody has gotten into my Gmail but me and no unrecognizable 3rd party app either. I ended up deleting Notion, I don't use it anyway.

Today, I just got a "here is your Microsoft Token" code, someone is trying to get into my Microsoft email. I consider my Microsoft accounts a less used 4th and 5th account really used only to set up my desktop and laptops. That token landed in 2nd main email. I did a sweep of that last night too as part of email 1's sweep. No strange log-ins and no strange 3rd party.

HaveIBeenPawned says there was one breach of email 1's email from NetGalley...6 YEARS ago.

I am very nervous, these main accounts are associated with my banks and stuff. What do I do? Where do I even BEGIN? Are all my accounts being hacked? Is it a sweeping bot just trying to get into everything and if so is it a coincidence that it happened to be two different emails affected?
