A bit of morning fishing in Nusfjord
Picked Nusfjord up a few weeks ago along with a couple of other games, and finally got around to giving it a try. Set it up last night and then watched a Paul Grogan playthrough, then gave it a go this morning. By my count, 44 points in basic mode with the Herring deck, though I might have cheated myself an extra fish at one point on accident, not sure.
My first impression is that it feels like the opposite side of the coin of White Castle. Both action selection efficiency puzzles, but while White Castle is extremely tight: you run an automa, margins for victory are razer thin, there are pretty frequently choices that are clearly better than others (imo), Nusfjord feels much calmer and more open ended. No automa, byos, loads of different paths you could potentially take at the start that then narrow down as the high scoring C buildings get revealed.
Very enjoyable game, really looking forward to seeing more of the deck(s) to see the different paths to lean into. As my first Uwe game (possibly? he's made a million), I'm impressed.
