Kingdom Legacy: Feudal Kingdom opinions

It's hard to say nice things about a FryxGames game given everything going on with them right now, but I played Kingdom Legacy — only the base game so far — after seeing some posts and comments about it here.

I'm not a great reviewer and English isn't even my first language, but I have a few opinions I'd like to share.

First of all, it feels really good to play a more engaging version of Palm Island. Upgrading a card and getting to use it for the rest of a long game is very satisfying. You pay the cost, put it in your discard pile, and can't wait to draw it again.

This game BEGS you to play it again. It's fast-paced, you can approach it in completely different ways, and it's really easy to get back on the table. And that's exactly why the legacy mechanics — which I usually love so much — feel a little off here.

Even if you refuse to destroy cards, you still have to glue on some stickers and modify cards in ways you can't undo. I'm not sure I can express exactly what I mean, but combined with what I said above, this game is physically so simple — basically 95% just a deck of cards — that it feels bad knowing you'd have to destroy it and buy another copy to play it fresh again.

And of course I saved this one for last: the AI slop. Even though I really loved the mechanics, as I said, this game is rough to even look at. The art, besides being obviously AI-generated, is SO UGLY. All the character cards are stereotypical and horribly designed. It feels so poorly put together that, deep down, it kind of stings to think I spent money on this lol.

So, that's it. To sum it up: the game is mechanically fun and easy to play — you can even run a turn while doing other things — but it's awful to look at, it confirms the whole AI slop controversy around FryxGames, and the legacy mechanics feel a little odd here. I'd much rather they were more "reversible" in a game this cheap and simple. I played it and wanted to share some thoughts, and also hear what you all have to say about it. Thanks!

The White Castle: Matcha or another game?

I’ve been mulling if I should go for The White Castle: Matcha or a different game for both solo and multiplayer. I like the action combos of the game while taking relatively not much table space. I was considering other games like Cascadia, Neko Syndicate, or Bullet Star as other quick and light games that play well on different player counts. For reference, I enjoy worker placement, tableau builders, and deck building. Would love to hear others’ thoughts about it

I find Marvel Champions excessively challenging. Are there any Marvel, DC, or Star Wars card games that offer a more accessible experience?

I am seeking a thematically rich game with exceptional illustrations.

Ideally, the rules should be intuitive and easy to grasp, unlike the complexity found in Marvel Champions.

Magic The Gathering Turtle Team-up...Only no teams.

I got MTG Turtle Team-Up to introduce MTG to my partner. She did not like the idea of playing against me, but preferred the option of a co-op system where we can work together. After our first round together, I saw the potential of it being a solo experience.

For those that don't know, Turtle Team Up has a boss deck and an event deck. The boss consists of three rounds. Round one is 1 boss, then 2, then finally 3. Each turn an event card is played on the bosses turn. It plays out pretty smoothly, the bosses can't block (stop you attacking) and are forced to attack each turn themselves.

https://preview.redd.it/bgxm77yikg2h1.jpg?width=1512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5466fced3f0e09d8793e5137e9429c6ffd5fc4d

I played a few rounds and liked it, however it was too easy. I went searching for other boss and event decks that somebody had made, but did not have any luck. I decided to make some of my own. I made changes to the [Boss Deck](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/1szuwue/turtle\_teamup\_custom\_bosses/) and later the [Event Deck](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/1tfgxk7/turtle\_teamup\_custom\_event\_cards/).

Both the boss and event cards have nasty modes now...As well as some other villains.

These changes opened up the game immensely. They also fixed some limitations, (e.g. cards targeting all Turtle Creatures, now target all Legendary Creatures), it also made it more challenging. It's more dynamic and things get out of hand fast. I feel completely at odds against the new bosses and event cards, it's great.

I won...Just

This project opened up this whole hobby for me. Now I have researched other solo physical gaming experiences. I am having an absolute blast with Vantage and I will eventually get some more solo board games to get lost in.

TL/DR: I made changes to a co-op mtg game mode to make it brutal and fun solo, opening up this new hobby of solo board gaming to me.

Dungeon crawlers with easy setup?

Which are also more or less deep (not just dice chucking), and not very tiny sized. Any examples besides Gloomhaven Jaws of Lion?

Terra mystica big box or base Gaia project?

Almost for the same price I can get the Terra mystica big box or only the base Gaia project game.

I like both games, but never played solo, Gaia is that better than TM for solo? Wich would you get?

TM big box has solo, more factions and some expansion with nem mechanic

A bit of morning fishing in Nusfjord

Picked Nusfjord up a few weeks ago along with a couple of other games, and finally got around to giving it a try. Set it up last night and then watched a Paul Grogan playthrough, then gave it a go this morning. By my count, 44 points in basic mode with the Herring deck, though I might have cheated myself an extra fish at one point on accident, not sure.

My first impression is that it feels like the opposite side of the coin of White Castle. Both action selection efficiency puzzles, but while White Castle is extremely tight: you run an automa, margins for victory are razer thin, there are pretty frequently choices that are clearly better than others (imo), Nusfjord feels much calmer and more open ended. No automa, byos, loads of different paths you could potentially take at the start that then narrow down as the high scoring C buildings get revealed.

Very enjoyable game, really looking forward to seeing more of the deck(s) to see the different paths to lean into. As my first Uwe game (possibly? he's made a million), I'm impressed.

Before May ends, I’m glad I was able to get a custom Darth Vader playmat made for my TCGs and board games. Of course, the very first game I played on it was my favorite, the Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game.

Of course, the very first game I played on it was my favorite, the Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game.

I tweaked some of the rules to make the game a bit more punishing. And yeah, I honestly thought the AI was going to beat me. 😂 It already destroyed two of my bases. Good thing the cards I drew near the end were mostly heavy attacks.

Won my first game of FantasyForm (Button Shy) on the train to work today 💪

What a fun little game, perfect for a train table! I already want to get the expansion pack, but it seems next to impossible to get my hands on in the UK...

Small time Heros Page 10?

Just received this in the mail, and don’t remember buying this game. It’s definitely the kind of stuff I follow on kickstarter, but did anyone else get this or have more info?

Lands Of Evershade Solo

OK Solo board gamers, the more I see of this the more I want to late pledge, but as I stream alot of solo content on YouTube, I wonder weather the base game is enough? Or does anyone have experience playing solo and how did u find it?

I am teetering on the edge of pledging but cant quite make up my mind if I should or what level I should pledge at!

Lunaris 45, amazing game under €20.

This is a very nice roll dice game.
I’m a fan of under falling skies and sky team. If you like this kind of games, I think Lunaris 45 is a must have. The game also includes a solo campaign mode.

Idk why I never saw a post about this game in here but this is a very nice game under €20. Also plays nicely with more players.

Does anyone here got this game? What are your thoughts?

Need some recommendations

Picking up the heat legends expansion when it drops this week or next on gamenerdz. I need to grab another game for that free shipping. I have a pretty decent collection a lot of the usual suspects from the top lists. What are some games you love that I might not have played? Generally prefer worker placement and deck building. Open to any good stuff though.

Imperium Legends remains an all-time great

I dusted off my copy which I hadn't played for about 6 months, got reacquainted with the rules and pitted the Minoans against the Maurians -- two relatively simple civilizations. I got destroyed, 78 to 99, on Overlord difficulty. The Maurians, as I discovered to my chagrin, are land-hungry expansionists who completely emptied the draw deck of regions in just a few turns. A single prosperity card at the end of the barbarian era netted them something like 18 points. On top of that, their nonstop attacks forced me to abandon my regions almost as quickly as I managed to play them, leaving me in a difficult position to achieve glory or prosperity.

My strategy of aggressively thinning my deck while acquiring almost no new cards, rushing towards developing my civilization, and achieving fame didn't work out. My engine was running well, but it was too slow compared to my rival: I should have better taken advantage of my fast transition to empire to acquire high-value civilised cards and tried to interfere more with the bot.

A game of Imperium takes a couple hours, but I never feel the time pass. I enter a flow state that I used to experience when playing Civilization II on my family PC way back in the day, trying to resist the lure of playing "just one more turn..." before realizing it's midnight. Funnily enough, though the game is quite open and you can choose between many actions in a turn, I rarely experience any analysis paralysis. Each individual action is relatively low-impact: on a historical timescale, you're slowly nudging your civilization in a direction over hundreds of years and you only feel the combined weight of your choices after many, many turns of pursuing a strategy. It goes without saying that theme is sublimely married to mechanics. Imperium also has an excellent ratio of "crunch per minute": setup is fast and bot turns take <30 seconds, so I'm spending the vast majority of my time on my turns. Pure bliss.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Unmatched Solo

So I haven't played any of the Unmatched games before but watched some gameplay and they look fun, but have struggled to find anyone interested to play with.

When I saw the TMNT set being co-op I was super pumped as I love TMNT - looks like it'll be a lot of fun solo.

Has anyone played it?

Pros, Cons?

Regulars to the solo table for me are LOTR, Kinfire Delve, Final Girl, Ashes Reborn.

Strategy advice: Unbroken

I keep finding myself in situations where, when facing the very last foe, I end up dying by running out of *minor* effort. Since there is no way to gain minor effort (there's only 1-way upgrading to medium and high effort), I just get stuck.

For example, in the game pictured here, I could have defeated the ogre with a last blow that would have only cost 1 minor effort and 1 metal... but then I would have run out of minor effort and immediately died. It doesn't matter that I would have gained effort through food after the fight (I had enough food stored up), the fact that I would have dipped to 0 during the fight means I would have died.

I'm considering implementing a house rule where the effort "upgrade" options would be effort "trade" options instead, so I can trade medium and high effort for minor effort as combat options.

Any tips to help? It seems I have this issue no matter how much effort I save before the final fight, but maybe I just need to try to save even more...

Ace of Spaces: help me think of or find a homebrew automata

I am loving ace of spades. The whole reason I got into solo board gaming was to be able to play a game of magic against myself or a game of poker against myself. One year and like 10 franchisees later I found this game.

The deal is, it’s only got so many enemies and it doesn’t play against you. Can anybody think of a way that the enemy might be automated to increase replayability?

Maybe by rolling dice to determine behavior or a system that somebody has put online that I’m not seeing.
