Tigris and Euphrates: solo bot

Since my friends are busy otherwise, and I get this irrational desire to simply gloat at my ancient copy of "Eufraat & Tigris" (as it's called in the Dutch edition), I cobbled up a solo variant.

video on my non-monetized channel: https://youtu.be/PLrFbYo-Ysc

=

basic idea is to randomly number the initial treasures by placing a round paper under each. They determine the preference of the bot.

Depending on the tiles it draws it will prioritize strengthening its leaders and then grow toward a bonus treasure.

I also played a 3 person game (2 different bots vs me). If you find this kind of games sad, simply don't watch, I found the thinking about how to make them behave an amusing pastime. Plus it looks gorgeous, but hey, that's in the eye of the beholder.

It's fairly simple (no dice) and easy to beat, but at least gives you a "baseline skill level" to acquire.

Carcassonne: The Mist

(or mists over Carcassonne, dunno the foreign language title)

This time we removed the 3-ghost tiles. That was way more fun. I highly recommend this if you, like most mortals, have trouble getting past level 3 and will not in your lifetime see the rest of the gameplay.

Note that you are still playing RAW, you just remove a few tiles.

I don't know how it will go on higher levels, perhaps remove a few more tiles.

After beating the game we'll add a few of the removed tiles.

Invasion (2021)

Watched the 3 seasons. It's pretty bad, I agree with rotten tomatoes. The plot goes like so:

  • >!Season 1: Independence Day dragged out across 10 episodes!<
  • >!Season 2: Independence Day dragged out across 10 episodes!<
  • >!Season 3: Edge of Tomorrow dragged out across 10 episodes!<

>!S1+2: Three uninteresting plotlines in parallel, don't make an interesting melange of plotlines.!<

>!S3: Plotlines converge into one, then a group of believers cultivated by the alien hive mind stay protected and go to war against the ones trying to take out the aliens. !<

All characters are paper thin and show no growth of anything in particular.

Of course there is this "anime" (Japanese) super tech nerd girl that saves the day.

Everything is shot in teints of brown and gray. Just like your average life, I guess. Just like Silo, Foundation and basically all other SF series of today.

And like so many series nowadays most shots are with a character alone, often walking in a tunnel or area where there's no human soul around.

The only good I have to say is the actual interaction of the Japanese girl and the>! floating flea!< alien and how they help each other out. >!And how he was integrated into other alien bugs and saved the Japanese girl.!<

The alien's POV is well developed in S3 and the modern Hollywood moral of humans are out against each other, have no beliefs and care for nothing is present as a consistent noise in your head all the time.

The memory loss thing caused by exposure to aliens was a nice find, but soo draaagged out.

I'm glad I discovered how to play this in 1.5x speed and still miss nothing, and the only character I actually liked was the girl that stood up for the bullied boy.

Worth watching? Yes, S1 episode 10, S2 episode 10, S3 last 5 episodes.

Conservas (yes this is the name of the board game)

[SOLVED] got official confirmation

https://preview.redd.it/57rusjvpwq0h1.png?width=845&format=png&auto=webp&s=8a73d31b58fe39b2b8d58b310799458ace7892c7

There's a GF campaign for more and harder scenarios. I think I'll skip it for this time though.

The question

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3355494/which-comes-first-choosing-the-boat-or-pulling-5-d

which also bothers me has never been answered.

In other words may you pick the boat card (or open water) AFTER you hauled the 5 tokens or not? and if it is allowed, is it also allowed to swap hauls between boats? I mean if we sacrifice thematics for agency and strategy, why not go all the way?

OT0 the card game

Thought just occurred this would make a cool card game. Let's ignore the copyright issues and such for now. I mean it could totally work. But the characters would need an efficient way of storing their skills.

Roll Player Adventures question (true solo)

Rulebook says you can do the side quest at any time. I just finished Book 2, glorious game. Question to fellow players:

  • After what book did you do the side quest book, and did you feel it was too soon or too late?
  • And for NJ, the backstories, I rolled a dual backstory. But I kind of feel that the main books should have entries that remind you on the side line what back story triggers there, has anyone made such entries? I mean I could make a few pdfs with that but if it's been done before why reinvent the wheel.

Roll Player Adventure

True solo.

Without the "s" - just did book 1.

Spent a few hours sorting and adding the errata, and still I came up in a situation the dev had missed - an endless loop because of a missing condition in chapter E. I houseruled that I got to E.21 and thus could break the loop.

Anyway, tomorrow rolling up two backgrounds, and on to book 2.

Probably nobody is interested in my thoughts, since the game is so old, so I'll keep it short.

  • Good story (for a low threshold adventure board game at least).
  • The book 1 dice checks are ridiculous and probably set up to see you fail but the fail consequences don't really matter (you gain some fatigue but it's all harmless, and don't need the last rest), so don't worry about it. In other words: trust the writing.

(I suppose that will change in book 2).

I did allow myself 2 masteries although the instructions said save your adventure. Didn't shop - thematically my hero was not in a city, but she did learn a thing or two so I found it fitting.

PS

about the errata, the bgg 2 pages are really shit, because the creator screwed up the typesetting. You'd have to cut up the sentences into words and then glue it. Not quite the Vantage quality I got used to. You have been warned. It took me 2 hours and seeing the entire second page of errata for book 8 I was like fuck it - I'll do that when I get there.

[EDIT]

I usually make a video showing step by step how to get to the point, but now I saw that aside from E20 when you end up in E21 this unlocks the end. Any other actions, with sections and a choice, you imagine that you can always teleport to the end, that is, including E18 and E19..

My mistake, and learned an important rule 😄

Switch lite user here, about the physical copy.

So I got the Dutch version which is censored - looking at the original Tatloch images online (quite revealing as the dialogue also implies) vs the fully dressed version on my screen. Or for Primrose for that matter.

I remember the differences between the European Okami and the one I got from playasia (original much better) so the question is

Did you by any chance purchase the game from playasia and is that an uncensored version (or are all switch versions made for Victorian eyes)? I'm not a horny teen but it's simply that censored versions feel dirty somehow (think snack world which was really messed up).

Could you check the box please?

(obviously irrelevant question for digital, digital versions are always censored).

TIA!

Switch lite user here.

Saw triangle strategy recommended like OT0 without any reasons. Would it be fun after OT0?

And what about Chained Echoes?

What I like about OT0 is the story - love how well laid out it is and how grounded the NPCs feel. That they all have their own little view of things. Their personality. Even the baddies, extremely strong writing. I'm probably spoiled for life here.

Aside from the fantastic world building and story, there is combat and exploration - you're not really supposed to grind, just run around doing side quests, and battles are mostly about tuning your party for a specific purpose.

Aside from TS and CE any other suggestions that fit the bill?

I got access to the blue chests (including the one in >!Berecain, very cool spear!!<) before entering the throne room, so by the time I got to do the fight I was level 50. In the palace I never found the >!edoras dude of fame, where the hell is he?!< (but I found the other two). He has 3 phases and it obviously took roughly an hour.

>!You can probably defeat him level 40 provided you have a well-tuned party and a ton of hirelings (again, church upgrade for more and longer hirelings) that deal light damage, but I just kinda haphazardly walked in with a random party and some random hirelings. !<

>!I just had the members that didn't have anything to target his weakness throw light soulstones.!<

Cutscene, credits roll :-)

Today I may finally get to visit >!Donescu !<♪
