The Witcher: Legacy

Are they just making the Old World with more story and legacy systems? It feels like it is not worth it if you already have the Old World? Or is it just Old World 2.0 fixing issues from the original?

Earthborne Rangers and Vantage

Hi. I am looking for some chill game to play with exploration. Something I can set up quickly after a long day, enjoy some fun without big commitment and be done with it for a session. I do not like optimization puzzle games. I am more into emergent stories, dice chucking, dungeon crawlers. My favourite games are Elder Scrolls BotSE, Too Many Bones, Slay the Spire, SETI, Nemesis, This War of Mine, Deep Rock Galactic, Massive Darkness 2. I don't like games like Mage Knight and Spirit Island. I have tried games like ISS Vanguard and Sleeping Gods Distant Skies, but they didn't work for me. ISS was too much fiddling for the reward and exploration phase was a slog. Regarding Sleeping Gods I didn't like the combat (optimalization puzzle). I was looking into Earthborne Rangers and I am a bit scared it looks little like another optimalization puzzle game? And Vantage looks like a game without purpose? But that is just my first impression. Anyone with experience who can elaborate about those 2 games?

Sniper Elite or Terrorscape?

Hi, looking for a hidden movement game for 2 people. What do you think? Or maybe you have a better suggestion? We do not care about the theme (horror vs soldiers/war) so do not take that into account. Just from a pure gameplay perspective.

How many games do you have?

And how many would you like to have? Would you go bigger or smaller? I have like 70 games. Around 20 of them are games I am keeping for kids and I will most likely get rid of them as they outgrow them, unless they would like to keep them. So that is 50 left. And I still feel like I have too many and I should get rid of like 10 of them minimally. But then I feel like I am at the point, that I feel like every cut hurts now 😁. That I do not have many of those "easy to get rid of picks". And I still have 5 games on my wish list. How about you?

Revenant

Hi, I do not like deterministic optimization puzzle games (find one best solution mathematics) like Spirit Island and Make Knight. My favourite games are Too Many Bones and SETI, Dune Imperium Uprising. Do you think that Revenant is a good fit? Do you have any experience with the game? How is it solo?

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – The Miniatures Game vs The Card Game

Which one and why? Or both? Or none? Anyone with experience with this game who can say some opinions on the game?

Board games based on videogames IP

Hey, what board games you think are capturing the video game mechanics/feeling well? Which are in your opinion worth it? I just played Deep Rock Galactic board game and I must say that in my opinion they really nailed the game feel and I really enjoyed it. Production value is also really good in my opinion - I have a deluxe edition. I have played it solo and I really like that I can have BOSCO with me 😁. I also have Witcher Old World game, but it is not as good as I thought it could be. I bought Monster Trail expansion which will hopefully fix that hunting/tracking feel which is missing in base game. But I haven't played it with expansion yet, so cannot comment on it. Slay the Spire is amazing in my opinion. I also have Wrath of the Lich King board game, which is basically a pandemic system. It is simple and some people might even find the gameplay dull. I enjoy it for its simplicity and it's definitely a Beer and Pretzels game. From all games mentioned I have played only Witcher in the group. The rest was solo.

Edit: I forgot about This War of Mine. This game is awesome as a board game variant.

Edit2: I have Metal Gear Solid, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood of Venice, Sniper Elite and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in my backlog.

Valheim: The Board Game

Hi, I am looking for some survival adventure with good crafting. I already have Nemesis and This War of Mine at home. I was thinking about Robinson Crusoe but I read everywhere it's hard game with hard rules and bad rulebook. What are your opinions on Valheim? And if you compare it to Robinson Crusoe? Also I see some comparison to Deep Rock Galactic board game in terms of gameplay loop, which I don't understand what people mean by that. Do they mean that you chuck dice for combat and you spawn enemies? I have DRG at home too.

If you don't like Euro games like me, you should still try SETI

I almost never play euro games. I don't like them. I play emergent stories games and dungeon crawlers and RPGs. But there are 3 games in my collection that are more of Euro games. One is the Terraforming Mars Dice Game (because I love dice games), Dune Imperium Uprising (it is mix of worker placement and there is also conflict between players) and SETI. And I must say I am falling in love with this game. It's so good. I am still not that experienced so I am still kind of learning the game but it is so fun, that I am literally sinking hours into it and then I look at the clock and I am like "wow it's already that late?!?"

Edit: it might be also enhanced by the fact that I like the theme, but I still think it's exceptionally well made game

Crew: Mission deep sea or LOTR trick taking game?

Hi, I am looking for a light and short 20 to 30 min co-op game for 2 people. I was maybe thinking about those 2. Between those 2 I am preferring LOTR because of the theme but would like to read your experience with those games or maybe you will suggest something completely different?

Edit: Thank you all for the feedback. Decided that I will not buy any of those and instead go for a completely different game for 2 player co-op. Sky Team is on my wish list for a few months already so I will go with that I think.

Minimalistic Dungeon Crawler which looks unnoticed - 2D6 Dungeon

Hi, I have found a game called 2D6 Dungeon: A Dungeon Crawler. I love dungeon crawlers and always look for them. I never see this little minimalistic game mentioned. Sadly I cannot buy it in my country. But have a look and maybe you will find it interesting if you don't know this game!

Mage Knight difficulty exaggeration?

Hey, I have this game at home for a month. I was waiting for the moment when I have more time and I am rested to play this game. Also I was intimidated at the same time because everyone is talking about this game as super hard and complex. So I finally decided to start learning it. I am just looking at a guides for Mage Knight. I don't know if it's because I'm used to playing games that are generally more complex like Too Many Bones, Nemesis, Dune etc. or the fact that I have played a lot of RPG games in my life. But looking at the guides, this game does not look as complex as people are making it to be? Yes there are a lot of little rules and decisions, but it all makes sense in my opinion and a lot of reminders are actually written on the cards/reference cards. Maybe it is because I am used to RPGs, so that all resistances, fortified etc. do make complete sense to me. So to all scared by this game. Don't be. Actually this game seems to me more fun and easier to play than Spirit Island in my opinion. Maybe also because I just don't like Spirit Island, it just didn't click for me and I don't like abstract optimization puzzles where I need to think "10" rounds in advance. But Mage Knight feels differently. More like Slay The Spire with the map and adventure feel.

Edit: I have played the game now and my opinion is still the same. Yes you need to look into rules for nuances and small things and yes the brain burn is there. But a lot of people are "gatekeeping" people from getting the game because "It's too complex", like you need a masters degree from Mage Knight to play it. Which simply is not true.
