My CRPG Tier List

Just came across this tier list and thought it would be fun to make my own :)

Best game of each Garphill trilogy

I just played raiders of the north sea, it was the last one that I've learned. And now I feel like the second game is always the best, specially for solo.

My opinion might change in a while but:

North Sea: Raiders

West Kingdom: Paladins

South of Tigris: Scholars

Puerto Rico and Castles of Burgundy SE solo modes

Photo from before I started (forgot to take one of Burgundy lol)

As a solo gamer, I was never a fan of Puerto Rico or Castles of Burgundy. But after watching some playthroughs of the Special Editions of both, I decided to give them a shot.

I'm absolutely IN LOVE with both. The automas are really easy to manage, the game flow is fantastic, and I love that they can also be dropped into a multiplayer game.

I think Awaken Realms really nailed these solo modes, and I can't wait to try Agricola once it's out.

The best solo game from each designer, among the most popular ones

Hey all!

Had this idea I wanted to run: take the most popular and well-known designers out there, and name the single best solo game from each of them.

Here are my picks, with honorable mentions in parentheses (narrowing it down to just one was harder than I expected):

  • Vital Lacerda — On Mars (Speakeasy)
  • Uwe Rosenberg — Fields of Arle (A Feast for Odin)
  • Stefan Feld — Civolution (Castles of Burgundy SE)
  • Jamey Stegmaier — Vantage (Viticulture)
  • David Turczi (yes, I'm a bit biased) — Voidfall (Imperium, Captain's Chair, Anachrony)
  • Vlaada Chvátil — Mage Knight
  • Eric Lang — Cthulhu: Death May Die
  • Shem Phillips — Legacy of Yu (Inventors, Paladins)
  • Alexander Pfister — Maracaibo (GWT2E)

Curious to hear what you'd change, and who you think I left out that deserves a spot.

Kingdom Legacy: Feudal Kingdom opinions

It's hard to say nice things about a FryxGames game given everything going on with them right now, but I played Kingdom Legacy — only the base game so far — after seeing some posts and comments about it here.

I'm not a great reviewer and English isn't even my first language, but I have a few opinions I'd like to share.

First of all, it feels really good to play a more engaging version of Palm Island. Upgrading a card and getting to use it for the rest of a long game is very satisfying. You pay the cost, put it in your discard pile, and can't wait to draw it again.

This game BEGS you to play it again. It's fast-paced, you can approach it in completely different ways, and it's really easy to get back on the table. And that's exactly why the legacy mechanics — which I usually love so much — feel a little off here.

Even if you refuse to destroy cards, you still have to glue on some stickers and modify cards in ways you can't undo. I'm not sure I can express exactly what I mean, but combined with what I said above, this game is physically so simple — basically 95% just a deck of cards — that it feels bad knowing you'd have to destroy it and buy another copy to play it fresh again.

And of course I saved this one for last: the AI slop. Even though I really loved the mechanics, as I said, this game is rough to even look at. The art, besides being obviously AI-generated, is SO UGLY. All the character cards are stereotypical and horribly designed. It feels so poorly put together that, deep down, it kind of stings to think I spent money on this lol.

So, that's it. To sum it up: the game is mechanically fun and easy to play — you can even run a turn while doing other things — but it's awful to look at, it confirms the whole AI slop controversy around FryxGames, and the legacy mechanics feel a little odd here. I'd much rather they were more "reversible" in a game this cheap and simple. I played it and wanted to share some thoughts, and also hear what you all have to say about it. Thanks!

Endeavor: Deep Sea Uncharted Waters Enhanced Solo/Co-op Sheet

Hi all!

I've lost my enhanced solo/co-op rules sheet from the new expansion and I can't find a PDF to download it anywhere.

Does anyone knows where I can find it? Or even just the rules written?
