Miserability of women in religion
Many religions have a standpoint of separating women's and men's roles... fair enough. But when all you think about a woman is that they're supposed to bear children and be mothers... do you really see them as an equal human at all? No. Not all religious people do it of course and I am talking about the state of mind that some people can be driven towards because they're in a certain religion. A religion like Christianity should celebrate women as all are created equal before God and in his image. But some speakers in the community have developed views more akin to medieval with-hunting type of ideals. This I mean about some online Christians who I've seen share a "homebound" rhetoric against women, if we may call it that.
I could summarise my idea to this: religion should never influence your view of people for the worse... becoming close-minded is a choice.
Why it is harmful: When European countries were first becoming more socially agile, and women given the right to vote, we could say it was the moment that you stopped using religion as an excuse for backwater thinking. These countries, still Christian for the most parted, started to act like human beings would act. It is worth to keep in minds that the holy books of almost any religion are over thousand years old. They are outdated in many ways. Yes, secularisation happened around the same time and is a contributor in this, but all people, religious or not, were starting to accept change. When we run back such impressive evolution, we are kicking ourselves in the leg. I do not want to see us be filled with close-mindedness, and frankly, idiocy!
