PSA: Most people would rather make their own mistakes than listen to warnings. They want hope over your harsh realities, and will even resent you for pointing it out.

So don’t waste your energy trying to tell them, let alone convince them. Give advice only when they ask for it. Let people learn on their own.

Edit: Some comments tempted me to explain myself, but I'll take my own advice and leave it at that.

Since I was younger, I noticed that older people were very selective and purposeful with their interactions. They didn’t seem to spend energy on every relationship.

I’m 40, my social world is small and I don’t seem to have the energy or capacity for many relationships outside of a small circle.
