Which one of these two is the best for a Kanto run?

Taking in account all three official versions of Kanto, which one of these two do you think is the superior water type for a Kanto playthrough?

This considers matchups against major fights like gym leaders, rival, elite four, Team Rocket.

Availability since you can get one of them way earlier but has a higher special stat.

And overall vibe, which one of them feels more Kanto?

Who is the number 1 Kanto water type?

What makes a good Kanto Team?

A few days ago I posted this image of my favorite Kanto Team in another subreddit, I asked what everyone thought about my favorites, I expected some people to tell me how I have a lot of ice and electric weakness because of having three flying types.

But the feedback I got was pretty different: BASIC, MID, BORING.

I was really astonished, basic? I thought Venusaur was the least picked Gen 1 starter, Rhydon is pretty rare to see in playthrough teams, Dodrio is famously underrated, Scyhter is a bug type, bug types in general where niche before like Gen 5.

Gyarados I can understand, even tho I wouldn’t call it basic, let alone boring, it just gets a lot of usage because it’s probably the best pokemon early game through end game.

Snorlax is in fact basic but it’s also like, my all time personal favorite pokemon, that criticism I can take.

But the whole thing got me thinking, what does “basic” even mean? I would consider basic stuff like Charizard, Raichu, Pidgeot, but other than that I don’t think any Gen 1 pokemon is like super basic.

Unless you’re beating the game with like Parasect, Hypno and Dewgong, anything in the Kanto dex can be considered basic, and it’s kinda odd that the community is always like “oh the games are not that hard, just play with your favorites”, but the moment you show your actual favorites the slander and gatekeeping begins.

What do y’all think? What’s y’all’s Kanto team?

Tera-Normal Dragonite Availability

Dragonite is one of my favorite Pokemon, and in the hispanic community we have a meme that the Mailman Dragonite from the first Pokemon Movie was from Spain, so when a region based in Spain came out I knew I wanted to use Dragonite on my team.

Further more, when I learned that the new battle gimmick of terastalization benefited Dragonite by giving it Normal Type STAB on Extreme Speed I knew I had to try it.

The thing is I am going to buy Pokemon Violet but I don’t know anything about how you get Pokemon with different Tera-Types, neither do I know how far into the game you can get a Dargonite, let alone one with a specific Tera-Type, so I figured I’ll ask you guys!

Hey, so, I do know about competitive and I know how it works, I’ve just never done it, I’m usually bad at number games like domino or poker, so I just stuck to random battles in pokemon showdown. But lately I’ve seen so many people having fun with Pokemon Champions with pokemon that I like, Mega Dragonite, Dragapult, Sylveon, Maushold, Scizor, I just felt it might be worth giving a try, maybe I’ll end up using Pokemon that I never batted and eye to, maybe I’ll get to use my Iron Bundle once they add him to the game.

Do y’all recommend any teams?

I´m about to play Ultra Moon for the first time, I alredy used a really cool Mudsdale in Pokemon Sword, so I wanted to give Garchomp a chance in this game, but I don´t know if you get Gabite too late in the story to be useful, i mainly wanted to use him to face Ultra Necrozma with a strat I planned and then for the Elite Four.
