For example do you name your Ralts the same name in every generation you find one ? My friend told me it makes your pokemons "ununique" but idk i'm just telling myself my poke's soul traveled games so i just name them the same.

What about you ? Do you keep a single nickname for each pokemon ? Let me know please

I appreciate this isn’t exactly a hot take, but the Diamond and Pearl regional dex is easily the worst in any mainline game.

I won’t focus too much on the fire types (Rapidash and Infernape are the only 2), as everyone knows about these.

Other issues include:

- Including all 4 of the Kanto trade evolutions (12 Pokemon)

- 32 of the 151 being water type

- 16 of the 151 being ground type

- 3 bug/flying lines

- Only 2 multi-stage electric lines

- Practically none of the new Sinnoh evolutions of previous Pokemon are available

Was there any need to include Whiscash and Quagsire when Gastrodon existed? Why is Beautifly here when Mothim and Vespiquen exist?

I know this has been spoken about before but I really would love to know the logic behind some of these picks.

I think blindly picking Pokemon at random from the first 4 gens would create a more well-rounded dex.

Luckily, Platinum fixes most of these issues, giving access to Pokemon such as Ralts, Eevee, Duskull etc.

If you had to choose (gun to your head) Which one are you taking?

Feel like Black & White was the last generation that really still kept that core traditional pokemon feel

The last generation to still use 2D sprites but they stepped it up a notch with the 3D angles perspectives and lively animated in-battle Pokémon sprites

The last Pokemon generation where the difficulty still mattered, and gym leaders actually still felt like a real challenge (Drayden was hell to beat)

Had one of the best teams ever with Team Plasma who’s goal was to liberate Pokemon from their trainers which opened up an interesting moral perspective on the concept of a “Pokemon Master”

N is one of the greatest rivals, along with Cheren, (and Bianca was just adorable)

Professor Juniper being the first female professor was a nice touch idk

Soundtrack was pretty fire too

X & Y, I loved.

I remember how excited I was when I played through the game and that Pokemon since debuting onto the 3DS was emerging into 3D for the first time, forever moving away from the traditional 2D sprites.

And while I personally think X & Y was great, had a lot of very convenient features like EV training and awesome Wonder Trade features

I can’t help but feel like it was the beginning of the downward spiral of mainline Pokemon games

3D is cool for sure, but is it a hot take to think that the 2D direction has a certain charm to it that doesn’t translate over to 3D as well? Especially coming from Black & White, which they really perfected that element of 2D sprites but made them feel so vibrant.

And the difficulty was greatly lowered to seemingly cater to newer players of the series which would only continue to progressively incorporate more and more handholding mechanics and less in game adversity for the subsequent generations to come.

Is it a hot take to say the mainline games haven’t peaked past Gen 5(Black & White)?

Or I could just be an old head who is living in his nostalgia lol I never got the hate for Black and White or X & Y personally

Growing up is learing how to actually use moves like sand-attck, growl, leer, and not deleting them for haymakers 😅

As a kid I would never like these moves in my moves list since they did zero damage, but now that I have evolved into an adult, I now realize that those moves are actually good af. Red, Blue, and Yellow I never used those moves. I would spend my time training until a new move was learned and immediately replaced them. Im now approaching unc status and picked up the classics again and have been using the moves to my advantage.

Lv. 10 me would be proud.

I know Gale of Darkness got released on NSO for Switch 2, but it also would have been nice to see other mentions or crossovers, like have Wes and Michael as skins for Pokémon Trainer in Smash, have some iconic characters like Wes, Michael, and Miror B. in Masters, easter eggs or mentions of the Orre region and Shadow Pokémon, and there should have been new games to add to the series. It doesn't have to be set in Orre, it could take place in a new region or in a mainline region. Guess I am feeling nostalgic, the Miror B. Theme from XD has been stuck in my head recently. LOL

P.S.: The XD version of Miror B.'s theme is better than Colosseums in my opinion. Both are good, but XD's fits his disco style and character more.

I'd say a cassowary - it already looks like a Pokemon, it would be easier than Flamigo to come up with a concept.

More generally, it's wild to me that there's only a single shark (ok two if you count Garchomp) or whales given how many different kinds there are IRL, but we have no shortage of cats.

My 5 year old daughter wants to be a pokemon trainer for Halloween. What are some good options for it to be obvious that’s what she is? I was thinking layering clothing seems to be one common outfit? She specifically doesn’t want Misty’s outfit (or Ash). Her favorite trainer is Liko, but I feel like it’s not enough? She has stuffed pokemon we’ll be bringing as well. I also don’t want to spend hundreds on one outfit for one evening. Thanks :)

Edit: thanks for all of your recommendations! I’m for sure getting her the clip belt for pokeballs, and a hat! I also found some bags on the poke center that would work perfectly so she can keep her Sprigatito buddy with her. I’ll also be ordering a pokeball candy bucket. As for the outfit, I’ll let her decide that part when it gets closer! I really appreciate all of your ideas!

In both sword and shield I had to look up how to evolve Yamask into Runerigus. Both times it involved loosing 49 hp, and then running under a bridge or an arch somewhere.

I looked it up online, but how were we meant to figure that out without online guide?

I have been learning to draw by doing a different pokemon every day for Inktober. So I am looking for suggestions for simple pokemon to draw. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know because I am open for suggestions! Just make sure that it is something simple.

We’ve only seen starters truly in the wild in Let’s Go, a game that plops various rare Pokémon in different spots to enable Dex completion. Otherwise, we only have things like Island Scan and the Blueberry Academy. Which grasslands, watersides, fields, or caves would you put each starter in for each region?

I just rewatched Pokémon Origins and damn it hits so close to home!

I love the art style, the line up, and the epic ness! The introduction to mega evolution was a masterpiece.

Oh, and that final mega punch that Charizard landed on Mewtwo was absolute f*cking cinema!

9/10 for me.
