If you had to choose (gun to your head) Which one are you taking?

Feel like Black & White was the last generation that really still kept that core traditional pokemon feel

The last generation to still use 2D sprites but they stepped it up a notch with the 3D angles perspectives and lively animated in-battle Pokémon sprites

The last Pokemon generation where the difficulty still mattered, and gym leaders actually still felt like a real challenge (Drayden was hell to beat)

Had one of the best teams ever with Team Plasma who’s goal was to liberate Pokemon from their trainers which opened up an interesting moral perspective on the concept of a “Pokemon Master”

N is one of the greatest rivals, along with Cheren, (and Bianca was just adorable)

Professor Juniper being the first female professor was a nice touch idk

Soundtrack was pretty fire too

X & Y, I loved.

I remember how excited I was when I played through the game and that Pokemon since debuting onto the 3DS was emerging into 3D for the first time, forever moving away from the traditional 2D sprites.

And while I personally think X & Y was great, had a lot of very convenient features like EV training and awesome Wonder Trade features

I can’t help but feel like it was the beginning of the downward spiral of mainline Pokemon games

3D is cool for sure, but is it a hot take to think that the 2D direction has a certain charm to it that doesn’t translate over to 3D as well? Especially coming from Black & White, which they really perfected that element of 2D sprites but made them feel so vibrant.

And the difficulty was greatly lowered to seemingly cater to newer players of the series which would only continue to progressively incorporate more and more handholding mechanics and less in game adversity for the subsequent generations to come.

Is it a hot take to say the mainline games haven’t peaked past Gen 5(Black & White)?

Or I could just be an old head who is living in his nostalgia lol I never got the hate for Black and White or X & Y personally

I’m a beginner and can read hiragana/katakana

But for example, for people who are more experienced with the language, do you read the sentence in its native language first and translate it in your head to interpret it or is it more so you are so experienced with the language that you’re digesting it all in its native language as you’re reading it?

I guess a better question is, when you read Japanese do you filter it into english verbiage to better help you interpret or does your mind just skip that part because you’re proficient enough already? Just curious

Like during the remainder of my high, my words come out so clearly and straightforward compared to when I’m usually sober I sometimes end up mixing up my words and articulation. Is there a neurological reason for this? I want to improve.
