Hello dentists of Reddit.
Today, I had a molar ground down and a three-week temporary crown applied while waiting for the permanent one.
The reason for this crown was that my molar appeared to be cracked and had a cavity forming underneath an old filling.
Unfortunately, the temp crown popped off two hours later while I was rinsing my mouth with water. That’s not a good sign, but what concerns me even more is that now that I can see what’s left of that ground down tooth, it looks to me as if the crack is still very much there and that a dark spot, presumably the cavity, is also still visible.
I’m at a loss here as for what to assume about this job I had done today. The crown came off without force and the problems I’m trying to address regarding this tooth look like they’re still present.
What do you make of this situation?
I’m going back in 5 days to have a new temp crown attached, but what’s further concerning is that this temp crown also had a visible crack upon closer inspection after it fell out. With light pressure applied in my hands, it broke apart.
I was about to try and stick it back on with some OTC Dentemp repair putty, but now that it’s broken, maybe I should just leave it out…
