TV Time import improvements and updates

An update on the https://www.reddit.com/r/Simkl/comments/1ukw725/tv_time_is_officially_dead_as_of_today_will_be/

Over the last few days, we've pushed multiple improvements to TV Time import at https://simkl.com/apps/import/tvtime/

If you have previously done an import and saw some movies that could not be detected (due to movie title year mismatches in TV Time export) or you had watch time imported on the same day, you can now re-import it again for newer match models.

Alternatively, you can clean your account data at https://simkl.com/settings/login/clean-or-delete/ and do a fresh import

If you're still having some difficulties with import, don't forget to try from a computer and not a mobile phone, and disable any Adblock extensions or Adblock DNS\VPN which may block the uploads.

If you see any additional improvements we can make or if something isn't working for your zip file, do let us know on Discord https://discord.gg/u89XfYn or through https://support.simkl.com

[OC] My last 12 months of watching TV, anime and movies: one square per day, shaded by hours watched, $$$ spent by movie studios to keep me entertained

Source: my own Simkl watch history, every TV episode, anime episode and movie I've logged. Each square is one day over the last 12 months; color = hours watched that day. Most Watched TV Networks, Top watched Directors all time, $$$ spent by movie studios to keep me entertained.

Stats, Stats and more Stats! The new Simkl Stats page is live, and the full all-time view is free for everyone

https://reddit.com/link/1uhcgey/video/3oprimg4ov9h1/player

Hey everyone,

TL;DR: Our biggest-ever Stats page is live, and the full all-time view is free for everyone: a watch heatmap, watch streaks, your viewer archetype, a binge report, top genres and directors, and a lot more. VIP adds Year in Review and Month in Review. There's also an easter egg hiding on the heatmap that we're not explaining. See yours: https://simkl.com/my/stats/

https://preview.redd.it/y5l1sd0zov9h1.png?width=1568&format=png&auto=webp&s=a86084567ccce50c62e3d9087f38cc36ac2cb3d9

Stats. Then more stats. Then stats you didn't know we could pull. We just shipped the biggest stats page Simkl has ever had, and it's packed with new ways to see what you watch, how much, and what that makes you as a viewer.

That's the fun of it. Which decade your taste actually lives in. The director you keep coming back to without ever noticing. The weekday you always end up bingeing. The day you put away a dozen episodes of one show in one sitting. How this year's you stacks up against last year's. Stuff you could never really see about yourself before, now sitting on a single page, and genuinely fun to scroll through.

https://preview.redd.it/aslrptjkov9h1.png?width=1582&format=png&auto=webp&s=a4bb35e70b6989a3f0219e06a2e44ecec0ea63fd

The best part: the full all-time page is free for everyone. No trial, no "unlock your own data." If you've tracked anything on Simkl, it's already there.

Total stats, all time. Free for everyone:

  • The big number. Your whole watching life summed into one line up top ("about three and a half years in front of the screen," or whatever yours comes to), pulled from every episode and movie you've ever logged. It re-words itself each time you reload.
  • A watch heatmap. 365 squares, one per day, shaded by how much you watched. Hover any day to see what you watched, filter by TV / Anime / Movies, and recolor the whole thing with nine palettes, including one that splits each day by type.
  • Watch streaks. Your current run, this week, today against your daily average, and your all-time best, with the dial lighting up when you're on a record streak.
  • A viewer archetype. The page reads your habits and crowns you (The Couch Commander, The Cinephile, The Otaku, and plenty more), with a separate title for your TV, Anime and Movies sides.
  • A binge report. It names your binge style, calls out your biggest single-day binges, ranks your most-binged shows, and works out how much of everything you've ever watched happened mid-binge.
  • Your taste, mapped. Top genres, most-watched directors (with the total production budget studios spent on the films you watched), the networks your shows aired on, a world map of every country they came from, and the decades your taste lives in.
  • Life Spent. The slice of your waking hours that actually went to watching, plus a backlog reality check that names the exact month your watchlist clears at your current pace. Or admits it never will. Drag the slider to test a faster one.
  • And lots more! Month and week recaps, your most-watched shows, your most-rewatched movies, your favorite classics, and a real credits-roll to close it out.
  • A share button right at the top, so you can post your stats straight from the page. It all works great on mobile and iPad, too.

All of it comes from your own watch history. No algorithm guessing, no AI filler.

https://preview.redd.it/jdhrpulmov9h1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=991d2f3488cee3218408f202d3d7506243c1117e

About VIP, since someone will ask. The all-time page is free and staying that way. VIP adds two things on top: Year in Review (pick any year) and Month in Review (pick any month), back to the day you joined. Same page, scoped to one stretch of time, with a few extras like your first and last watch of that year. That's the whole difference. Simkl runs on member support, no annoying ads on stats and no investors, and VIP is genuinely what keeps the servers on and this stuff getting built.

https://preview.redd.it/jan4o8v0pv9h1.png?width=1590&format=png&auto=webp&s=382b0b616bb84dd781466111f1874118bb204295

>One more thing. There's an easter egg hiding on the heatmap, and we're not going to explain it. We'll just say your 365 squares have a few tricks in them you won't see coming. Poke around. You'll know it when you find it.

https://preview.redd.it/uqanl746qx9h1.png?width=1572&format=png&auto=webp&s=7497930baa01359148bdcaa90b3313f879a652c6

This is the biggest Stats update we've ever shipped, and we'd still love to hear what you think. Open yours: https://simkl.com/my/stats/

Then come back and post the most interesting thing the page told you about yourself: the stat that surprised you, the number you didn't see coming, the archetype you got. Screenshots very welcome, we want to see them. Tell us what stat to add next, too.

Calendar: We brought back every episode on the calendar, and added a setting to control it

Calendar Update: all your episodes are back at https://simkl.com/my/calendar/

Some of our members noticed that episodes from your Plan to Watch and On Hold shows were getting trimmed on the calendar after previous calendar updates, showing only season premieres and finales.

As we found out that you may rely on these to add new episodes do download que without watching, we've changed that.

The calendar now shows every episode by default, for all your shows, whatever their status.

Still prefer the cleaner, less cluttered view? You can opt back into it anytime:

- Tap the new ⚙️button next to 🔥on any calendar

- Pick "Only premieres and finales" for your Plan to Watch & On Hold shows

- You can set your First Day of the Week right there too

All of it also lives under Settings → Calendar.

Thanks to everyone who spoke up about this. Keep the feedback coming on our discord https://discord.gg/u89XfYn and https://support.simkl.org/

New Simkl developer docs at api.simkl.org, plus rewatch tracking and API Debug / Analytics

Hey Developers,

Our developer docs have lived on Apiary for years. Oracle is sunsetting Apiary in October, and Apiary's been going down for hours at a stretch lately on top of that, so we used the forcing function to finally do what we'd been putting off: redo everything from scratch. Honest reason it took a few months is that once we started checking the old docs against the actual API, we found a lot more drift than we'd like to admit. What was supposed to be a content move turned into a top-to-bottom audit.

Anyway, the new docs are at api.simkl.org (or just hit api.simkl.com if that's easier to remember, it'll redirect you). We're pretty happy with how they came out.

Some of what you'll find there:

  • Detailed guides for the workflows people actually build: Sync, Scrobble, Search, Anime, Deep linking, Mark as watched, and more.
  • All three auth flows properly walked through: OAuth 2.0 for server-side web apps, Public PKCE for mobile / SPAs / browser extensions / desktop binaries, and PIN flow for TVs, consoles, CLIs, and media-server plugins.
  • Conventions pages that explain the cross-cutting stuff Apiary never covered: Headers, Pagination, Dates, Watchlist statuses, Null values, Images, CORS, and more.
  • Interactive try-it-now playground on all 48 endpoints. Drop in your token, hit Send, get a real response back.
  • Copy-paste examples in 16 languages: curl, Python, JS/TS, Kotlin, Swift, Java, Go, C#, PHP, Ruby, PowerShell, C/C++, and more.
  • LLM-friendly: every page can be copied as raw markdown or opened straight in Claude / ChatGPT / Cursor / VSCode. Full-site llms.txt is published too.
  • Full OpenAPI 3.1 spec: every endpoint and every response shape, verified against the live API. Point your SDK generator at it.

And honestly we're stoked to be shipping two new things along with the new API docs:

API Analytics: every registered app now has a built-in live request log, so you can see exactly what your code is sending. Last 24 hours of individual requests, with edge/origin status codes, latency, burst detection for retry loops, and CSV export. Useful for diagnosing OAuth wrappers, sync loops missing date_from, and silent 4xx errors your client never surfaces. Open it from your app's row in your developer dashboard → Debug.

Rewatches: POST /sync/history?allow_rewatch=yes now tracks separate viewing sessions on items the user already finished. Same data that powers simkl.com's Rewatches panel. Up to 50 sessions per movie, show, or anime, with proper session IDs you can resume, server-side auto-detection (or force it with is_rewatch: true), and lifecycle statuses (active / completed / closed). Available for Simkl Pro and VIP members; free-tier callers get a silent no-op so existing apps don't break.

Heads up: the Rewatches API is still in early testing and the shape may change as people start building against it. Drop your suggestions and thoughts in our Discord; your feedback will shape where it lands.

Try the new docs. See if the workflow you care about is covered. Tell us what's broken, wrong, or unclear. Suggest the features you've been quietly waiting for. We're on Discord and we read everything, and the changelog is live if you want to follow along.

Thanks for being patient with us through the rebuild. The stuff people have built on Simkl over the years is kind of wild and we want to keep enabling more of that.

Calendar updates - May 2026

Just pushed a batch of calendar improvements:

Bug fix - Time sort now works on first load. Sorting by Time used to silently fall back to Rank order on page refresh — you had to click Time again to actually get time order. That's fixed. Also fixed: anime episodes that air late in JP time were sometimes ordered wrong within a day cell because of timezone conversion crossing midnight. Time sort now consistently shows each day in ascending hour:minute order.

The "NEXT" badge is more accurate. The indicator that highlights today's next-to-air episode now correctly picks the right episode, even for shows whose local-time airing crosses midnight relative to the broadcaster's timezone.

Less noise for shows you're not actively watching. For shows on your Plan to Watch, On Hold lists, the calendar now only shows season premieres (S01E01, S02E01, etc.) and finales (mid-season, season, and series). Shows you're Watching or have Completed are unchanged — you still see every episode. The idea: if you haven't started a show, you probably don't want every weekly episode cluttering your view — just the milestone episodes that help you decide when to dive in.

New "Binge!" label on finales in Plan to Watch and On Hold. Season finales, mid-season finales, and series finales now display a "Binge!" tag next to the air time — a nudge that the season just wrapped and you can marathon it.

Don't forget it's Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage 2-part season finale today!

We have added a new Parents Guide section to about 100,000 shows and movies on Simkl, right under Cast & Crew.

For supported titles, you can now get a quick content overview before you press play:

  • Age rating when available
  • Five content categories: Adult Themes, Violence & Gore, Profanity, Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking, and Frightening & Intense Scenes
  • Color-coded severity from None to Severe
  • Intensity score for each category
  • Click any category to see the scoring distribution and read specific comments (if there are any available)

Whether you're planning a family movie night or just prefer to avoid certain types of content, the Parents Guide gives you a comprehensive breakdown of what to expect before you hit play.

You can find the new Parents Guide section on any TV show or movie page, right below the Cast and Crew.

Example: https://simkl.com/tv/967226/the-boys

Check it out on the title pages.

One of the most requested features is finally here — full rewatch tracking for TV shows, Anime, and Movies!

We're releasing this now on the website as a Beta for PRO and VIP members, with API and app integration coming in a future update. Didn't want to make you wait any longer!

https://preview.redd.it/zf1p9gnguevg1.png?width=425&format=png&auto=webp&s=7fee68eb58af50deff006f0e5524590bd3a0b2ec

What's a rewatch session?

You know that show you've watched three times? Or that movie you rewatch every year? Until now, Simkl only tracked your first watch — so your profile said "watched once" even if you've seen Breaking Bad start to finish three times.

A rewatch session is a separate run through a show or movie. Each one has its own episode progress, its own dates, and its own completion status. Your original watch stays untouched — rewatches are tracked alongside it, not on top of it.

Here's what you can do with it:

  • See your full watch history — not just "watched" but how many times and when
  • Track where you are in a rewatch without messing up your original progress
  • Rewatch with a friend who's seeing it for the first time? Track your progress alongside theirs in a separate rewatch session number.
  • Anniversary rewatches — log that yearly Lord of the Rings marathon or your annual The Office run
  • Know your stats — finally see which shows you love enough to come back to

https://preview.redd.it/bd1lx4fiuevg1.png?width=1581&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb2e8fb9d7dad026bf7f356c31b2175a1628c945

For TV Shows & Anime

  1. When a show is Completed, an "Add Rewatch" button appears in the sidebar
  2. Start a new rewatch session — your original watch progress stays untouched
  3. A "Mark Rewatched" button shows the next episode to rewatch (e.g. "Mark Rewatched S01E01")
  4. A dedicated progress bar tracks percentage, episodes done, and episodes remaining
  5. Close the rewatch to save it as completed, or Cancel to remove it
  6. Left a rewatch unfinished? A "Resume Rewatch #N" button lets you pick up where you left off instead of starting over

The rewatch view selector dropdown on the checkmars section as well as episodes page lets you:

  • Switch between your Original Watch and any Rewatch #1, #2, #3... — each with its own episode checkmarks
  • See the status of each session at a glance (Watching, Completed, Paused) with episode counts
  • Start a new rewatch directly from the dropdown with "+ Start New Rewatch"
  • Set any past rewatch as active with a toggle, so you can resume it from the episodes page

https://preview.redd.it/5pxwfphsuevg1.png?width=1590&format=png&auto=webp&s=32f2641938bbb7e83afd3a8408efc10ccedbe13c

For Movies (as well as Anime Movies)

A rewatch button appears after you've watched a movie. The date picker opens with smart suggestions tailored to rewatches:

  • "One week after previous watch" — the earliest valid rewatch date
  • "Anniversary rewatch" — exactly 1 year after your last watch
  • "Last weekend" — Saturday evening movie night
  • Plus your own custom date and time

When marking rewatch episodes (TV/Anime), you also get smart contextual suggestions to select the time you watched it.

https://preview.redd.it/czylrkvnuevg1.png?width=420&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b31f8aa8fcec33b02f78d3801ffd20e28dde7cc

Rewatch Stats & History

The sidebar shows:

  • Last rewatched — relative time with full date on hover
  • Rewatch count — e.g. "× 3 times (1 partial)"

Click the stats to open a Rewatch History popup showing every session with:

  • Date and time of each rewatch
  • Status icon (In Progress / Completed / Partial)
  • Resume — reactivate a past session
  • Edit Date — change when a rewatch happened, with the full date picker
  • Remove — delete a single session
  • Clear All — remove your entire rewatch history for a title

Your Watch History page https://simkl.com/my/history/watch-history/ now includes rewatch entries too — you can filter by specific rewatch sessions from the tv show\movie detail pages using the Watch History button to see exactly what you watched and when during each run.

https://preview.redd.it/kkn7vyy2vevg1.png?width=536&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6dcc2d8784510b2816f055655cddb23d796f828

Dashboard

Rewatches are now part of the dashboard. Active rewatch sessions show up in My List, ordered by your most recent watch, alongside other shows sorted by their latest air date.

https://preview.redd.it/ilsxsiu8lzvg1.png?width=1583&format=png&auto=webp&s=dbbc6bf2b3a19391814260b1d05d4047ac9417ab

Smart Validation

We built in some smart guardrails so your watch history stays clean:

  • Rewatches need at least a 7-day gap (it's a rewatch, not a rewind 😄)
  • Can't set a rewatch before your original watch date
  • A rewatch auto-completes when you've checked off all aired episodes

Availability

✅ Available Now

  • Full rewatch tracking on the Simkl website (desktop & mobile)
  • Available to PRO and VIP subscribers

🚧 Coming Soon

  • Simkl API support for rewatches — so third-party apps can sync rewatch data
  • Auto-tracker and mobile app integration
  • Rewatch stats in profile and yearly stats
  • Export rewatches in a backup file
  • Import rewatches from other services

Happy rewatching — let us know how it works for you!

Not a PRO/VIP member yet? Check out the plans https://simkl.com/vip/ — rewatch tracking is one of many perks.
