How do you actually find a good paralegal for Small Claims Court?
I’ve been looking for a decent paralegal to help with a Small Claims Court matter in Ontario; and honestly, it’s been harder than I expected.
The issue is, from the outside, it’s not easy to tell who is actually competent and who just has a nice website and facade!. A lot of them say the same general things, but when you ask about their experience, past work, approach, or anything that would help you judge the quality of their work, they don’t really give much.
I’m not expecting anyone to share confidential client stuff, obviously. But I would think there should be some way to understand whether someone is actually good before hiring them.
For people who have been through this, how do you properly vet a paralegal for Small Claims Court? What questions should I ask, and what would be a red flag?
I’m the plaintiff, and I’ve already gone through the settlement conference by myself. I also have most/all of the documents prepared and organized. At this point, I mainly need someone to review the material, advise if anything is missing or weak, and represent me at the trial/hearing.
