suggestions switching to env data science from env engineering?

Hi everyone!
I want to hear your suggestions or recommendations, maybe some has similar experiences I have both BSc (with some energy engineering mix) and MSc in Environmental Engineering, and currently working as Sales Analyst in pump manufacturing company.

However, I want to get back to a field related to environmental protection something like Climate Data Scientist or Carbon Market Analyst. I have limited knowledge of basic Python and SQL. I have no projects done yet, but I am thinking of doing some.

Do you think it will be worth applying to Data Science degree, but I am not sure which one is better bachelors or masters, I feel like Bachelors is good to start over to freshen my knowledge but seems to be there is high competition if you apply also for some kind of financial support because the tuition fees are quite expensive, and to apply for Masters I feel not so confident with my current knowledge and portfolio and plus overall, do you think the job market is still demanding environmental data scientist? maybe I should go for another track?

I am not sure if Data Scientist positions will stay stable in the future

thank you in advance for all the recs!!!

suggestions regarding a new degree

Hi everyone,

I have a BSc and MSc in Environmental Engineering and currently work as a Sales Analyst in a pump manufacturing company. I want to transition into climate/environmental data roles such as Climate Data Analyst, ESG Analyst, or Carbon Market Analyst.

Right now I only have beginner Python and SQL skills and no portfolio projects yet.

Would you recommend:

  • self-study + projects,
  • or a Data Science master’s degree for this transition?

I’m also curious whether climate/environmental analytics still has strong long-term demand.

If anyone made a similar transition from engineering into environmental data, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience.
