Multiple Ectopics: Looking for similar stories / experiences

I had my first ectopic pregnancy 6 years ago that ended in ruptured tube and emergency surgery to remove the right tube. It was extremely traumatic and changed me forever, precisely like so many women’s stories on this subreddit. I see myself in your stories and experiences and my heart breaks for all of us.

In this scenario, I didn’t know I was pregnant, took myself to the emergency room thinking it was my appendix only to end up on the operating table within the hour of finally being seen. I do not wish this experience on anyone.

Fast forward to now, I am married to a different partner and we have been trying to conceive for \~3 years seriously. We finally felt like it was time to seek fertility treatment and had begun the process of testing and preparing for a treatment plan, likely IVF.

Throughout these multiple visits and discussions, we reviewed my discharge notes from my ectopic surgery and I only realized now that the doctor had written „left tube appears clubbed with filmy adhesions.”

I had already had a HyCoSy done to check that the remaining tube was not blocked, this was confirmed.

In the midst of all this, I conceived naturally and again like so many of the heartbreaking stories I have read, we had a brief period of naive excitement. We were SO happy, and felt like FINALLY it was our time and that nature does indeed just have its own timing.

Unfortunately, we went for the first scan at 6w4d and nothing was seen in my Uterus. I went back two days later and they confirmed it was again an ectopic. I was given one injection of Methotrexate and am currently waiting out the HCG levels. I am currently on Day 4 post injection.

This morning, I had severe stabbing pain and tingling arms, coupled with severe bloating. I panicked and we went to the hospital. Ultrasounds were done they confirmed no internal bleeding and that the ectopic (still) remains in tact. My HCG levels continue to decrease slowly.

We are devastated because this feels like such a step back for our fertility journey, we feel fairly convinced that the other fallopian tube is the cause of the infertility.

My understanding is that nothing can really be done to „fix” an abnormal fallopian tube and that any natural pregnancy moving forward has a huge risk of being ectopic again. I cannot imagine going through this again. In parallel, we’ve been told that the swollen „clubbed” fallopian tube can secrete liquid which can be toxic! Apparently if I were to fall pregnant (either naturally or through IVF) the remaining tube can leak the liquid backwards into my Uterus and potentially hinder implantation and harm a growing embryo.

This information feels like we have an impossible situation: keep the tube, risk more ectopics, but also risk injuring a pregnancy OR potentially have to take out the tube anyway, and then never have a chance of conceiving naturally.

Has anyone had a similar experience?
Has anyone had an abnormal remaining fallopian tube and was able to conceive naturally?
Has anyone voluntarily had their second abnormal tube removed?

TLDR; What is the risk of keeping an abnormal fallopian tube versus getting it removed?
