Can my employer actually enforce a 1-year non-compete if another company offered me double my salary and better benefits?

Hey everyone, I’m 25F and currently working for a company where I started out doing mainly business support/admin work. Recently, I also took over the marketing/comms side after the previous person quit, but despite taking on the extra responsibilities, my salary wasn’t increased.

I asked for a raise and was told they “can’t give me that.”

Now another company in the same industry has approached me and offered me literally double my current salary. The issue is that my contract has a one-year non-compete clause covering companies in the same field.

I’m honestly torn because this opportunity would make a huge difference for me financially and career-wise, but I also don’t want legal problems.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? How enforceable are non-compete clauses usually, and what would you do in my position?
