Located in northern California, coastal. South facing, but only gets sun late morning through afternoon due to hedge on west side.

No idea what it is, botanist friend guessed some sort of fruit bearing tree.

She is neglected and struggling. Grass was growing thick around the base (I assumed removing that is one of the first steps to take). Leaves are sparse, sickly and spotted. There are several splits along the trunk, one as long as my forearm, but they appear to be old/healed. Lots of lichen growth.

What can be done to help it recover or is it a lost cause?
