I've always worn ankle socks with basically every shoe (except for RMs), but it seems long socks are now in. I've just bought a pair of Handball Spezial shoes in grey, and my ankle socks look a bit funny. What socks would you wear with these shoes, and what would you wear with Asics Kayano (every day shoes) and Nimbus (runners)?

Edit: I wore some low cut socks today with the Spezials but my heel was rubbing on the shoe, and the socks were still showing.
