Almost all functions are grayed out after 12.4 update? Can't save!

I installed the 12.4 update, booted up my tune and saved it as a new file as ableton told me to do to avoid issues

I did some work and went to save my project, and discovered that almost all functions in the drop down menus are grayed out, including save. There are some functions in the view menu that aren't gray, but that's it. A lot of other functions are also missing, like almost all the options shown when you right click a track. I also can't delete tracks, copy+paste, deactivate clips... probably more.

What's going on?

All I've been fiddling with since the update is the stem separation tool and I tried out a new reverb plugin, and some mixing. I obviously removed the new plugin, still same situation.

I'm on Windows btw.

Simulating room mics and mic bleed for programmed drums?

So I'm working on this "old school dub" track as an exercise, trying to emulate that 70's King Tubby sound.

Lots of drum+bass breaks in this style.

My programmed drums sound too programmed during these breaks. The samples, velocity and swing is all good, my suspicion is that I need more mic bleed and a more roomy sound to make it sound more like a drumset recorded in the 70's.

Are there ways to emulate that with a DAW?

And yes, I got tape emulations, tape delay, vinyl crackle and other lo-fi tricks going on so that's not the missing ingredient, I think.
