Onion mold

Onion mold

I was cutting an onion and noticed a focal spot of inner brown rot and a little bit of white fuzz, which is possibly mold. Is this onion still safe to eat of I just use the normal looking parts? I am not much familiar with onion mold (fungus) and safety precautions regarding it. I’ve seen comments about cutting out the rotting parts of an onion away, but is this any different? TIA!

Edit: more info: I got these onions yesterday from the grocery store and stored in room temperature.
