Neutering Corgi near 5 months advice

Pembroke welsh corgi, Rex, is 17 weeks. During a recent visit to the vet, we discovered a broken baby tooth in the far back of our dog’s mouth. This tooth exposed the nerve, which explained why he had stopped eating his hard kibble.

The vet consulted with a dentist and other vets at the clinic, and they all agreed that the tooth should be removed. However, they also recommended neutering him at the same time, as two separate rounds of anesthesia at a young age could be risky.

While I support removing the tooth, I’m a bit hesitant about neutering him at this young age. He’ll be around 5 months old when it happens. I’ve read online that different people recommend different ages for neutering, but I haven’t come across any information about 5 months.

In fact, some studies suggest waiting 9 months to a year due to potential issues with bone health and hips. The vet assures me that it’s safe, and I trust their expertise, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’m missing something important. Maybe I’ll just remove the tooth and ask when it’s safe to do the neutering procedure again.

Another concern, on the other end if I do the procedures separately, is the fact that he’ll be under anesthesia twice in a year or so. Any advice or thoughts you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Frustration with puppy not eating kibble

16 week old pembroke corgi. We had him since he was a little over 8 weeks old. Recently, past week or so, it’s been a struggle to get him to eat his kibble. He’ll eat one full meal a day and then either skip or eat only 1/4-1/2 his meal. I understand that in order to avoid a picky dog, we must not give in and add toppers/give wet food/etc. we soak his kibble to make it softer too since I heard that helps during the teething phase.

we’re also trying to avoid giving him treats or meaty chews.

The frustration comes with training. He’s very treat motivated but not kibble motivated. We don’t won’t to give him treats as we noticed if has treats before eating, he won’t eat any kibble at all. But that means we’re in a standoff with him where we can’t do training unless we use treats. I like to do short training sessions every wake up but we’ve been needing to skip some since he downright runs away from his kibble sometimes.

Any ideas or anyone with experience on this?
