Neutering Corgi near 5 months advice
Pembroke welsh corgi, Rex, is 17 weeks. During a recent visit to the vet, we discovered a broken baby tooth in the far back of our dog’s mouth. This tooth exposed the nerve, which explained why he had stopped eating his hard kibble.
The vet consulted with a dentist and other vets at the clinic, and they all agreed that the tooth should be removed. However, they also recommended neutering him at the same time, as two separate rounds of anesthesia at a young age could be risky.
While I support removing the tooth, I’m a bit hesitant about neutering him at this young age. He’ll be around 5 months old when it happens. I’ve read online that different people recommend different ages for neutering, but I haven’t come across any information about 5 months.
In fact, some studies suggest waiting 9 months to a year due to potential issues with bone health and hips. The vet assures me that it’s safe, and I trust their expertise, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’m missing something important. Maybe I’ll just remove the tooth and ask when it’s safe to do the neutering procedure again.
Another concern, on the other end if I do the procedures separately, is the fact that he’ll be under anesthesia twice in a year or so. Any advice or thoughts you can share would be greatly appreciated!
