Giving Marvel Premiere Collection a Chance
I’m a pretty new comic reader, and comics were never really a big thing in my country, so I only got into them recently. My first experience was with the DC Compact Editions. They were fine, but for some reason they didn’t fully hook me.
Then I saw the Marvel Premiere Collection and decided to give it a shot. Before buying, I checked Reddit and honestly… there’s so much negativity around these books 😅 Mostly about the price, the covers, or people saying Marvel is just copying DC.
But after actually reading one, I kind of don’t get the hate.
I started with Daredevil and it completely pulled me in. Yeah, it’s an older comic, and sometimes it’s a harder read for me because English isn’t my first language, but there’s something really special about reading a story from that era. It feels like holding a piece of comic history in your hands. Sure, it’s a reproduction, not an original vintage issue, but let’s be real — most of us could never afford the originals anyway.
I also don’t understand the complaints about the covers. To me, they look clean, retro, and like an actual special edition instead of just another random trade paperback. The original classic covers are still inside, so nothing is really lost.
What surprised me the most is that these books actually did what people say they’re supposed to do — they brought in a new reader. Me 😄
And honestly, I even like that Marvel is releasing these slower than DC. Some people see that as a negative, but to me it feels more curated instead of just pumping out books nonstop.
So yeah, maybe longtime fans see things differently, and maybe DC really does have stronger stories in some areas. I’m still new to all this. But as someone coming into comics without nostalgia or team bias, Marvel Premiere Collection has been a really fun way to discover the Marvel universe, and I’ll definitely keep buying the next releases.
