Why do we have so many statues?
I was on a trip to almost All the districts of Upper Assam region. One thing I have noticed, Our towns are filled with statues (it's not like all of them are Govt sponsored), Half the Sibsagar district is filled with statues, Golaghat too.
I want to understand why?What's the cultural significance or the mind set of people, If possible keeping it civil and Academic with diverse POV would be better, I don't care if it's political or not as long as it's Academic.
My observation is Instead of investing in all those Not so pretty statues we can invest in up keeping public space, gardens, road side sanitization for walks etc would be a better investment. As majority of the statues are of Historically significant Identities but are made in a very childish way and also kept very dirty. They make it and leve it with no after care whatsoever.
