I started a science mode playthrough and the time came for my (second) Mun landing. Everything was very overbuilt in order to allow the lander to be big enough to have spare delta v and hop from biome to biome for more science. After 3 biome hops the lander only had ~550m/s of delta v left, not enough to get to orbit. Rather than stranding Jeb and Bob there to await rescue, I waited for the mothership to get into position overhead and spent all of the landers remaining fuel to get into a sub-orbital trajectory. Then, with an intercept of 200m, I temporarily de-orbited the mothership and quickly docked the two craft together. Bob then grabbed all 19 experiments from the lander before it was jettisoned and left to crash into the munar surface. The mothership injected itself back into munar orbit and eventually returned to kerbin, yielding me a respectable 1,156 science!
