How to build genuine relationships with agencies over time?

Hey everyone,

I'm a aspiring commercial photographer based in Australia currently trying to build my reputation within the industry. I'm curious to hear from photographers who are established in the industry, as well as producers and agency side creatives.

I understand it's probably not as simple as sending a cold email and suddenly getting booked, but I'd love to understand what how photographers are building genuine ongoing relationships with agencies to work. What makes a photographer feel trustworthy or easy to recommend from an agency/producer perspective? Are coffee chats worthwhile, or do people generally prefer just receiving a concise portfolio/update?

Not looking for any shortcuts, just trying to understand how to approach this properly and build genuine long term relationships rather than just spamming people with my portfolio.

Appreciate any help in advance!
