I've always been regular. Coffee in the morning and boom, I go like the trumpets just brought down the walls of Jericho. However, in the past month or so, something is going on.
I've always had soft poops and quick turnaround time. 12 hrs and I'm pooping what I ate the day before. Just over a month ago to try psyllium husk (not much maybe 1 tsp once or twice a day). The next two poops were the greatest of my life. Full, thick, and totally satisfying. I felt like I was completely cleaned out. However, the next day I became constipated, maybe for the first time ever. It was a struggle. Hard nuggets came out covered in mucus eventually and I stopped the psyllium. I quickly returned to normal. After a week I decided maybe to try it again but a lower dose and once again, the same thing happened. Two great poops followed by constipation. So I stopped again. That was 3 weeks ago, and I feel like things have been off and on.
I ended up with an ER visit 3 days ago where I had stomach upset and loss of appetite and difficulty pooping. They didn't do any scans or x-rays they just wanted to give me some cocktail to calm my stomach. I took pepcid AC instead for a couple days and that worked on the stomach but now I'm really having trouble and I can't really go. I have a follow up with my PCP on Wednesday.
Whatever it is it's not a full blockage because I'm still passing gas but this is scaring the hell out of me. On top of that I have my first colonoscopy in a month and I've been doomscrolling with these symptoms.
Has anyone else had constipation start after increasing fiber or specifically Psyllium? Part of me wants to get miralax or magnesium just so I can flush myself out but I don't want to make it worse and am thinking maybe I should just wait to see what the doctor says?
