RACIST AUSTRALIAN CLIENT - REAL ESTATE
I recently had an experience with an employer/interviewer that left me genuinely uncomfortable. During the process, there were repeated remarks about being “fed up with Filipinos,” mocking comments, aggressive communication, and unprofessional language including being told to “fuck off” when asking reasonable questions about the role and onboarding details.
I understand that remote work can be stressful on both sides, but respect should still be the bare minimum in any professional setting. Candidates have the right to ask about expectations, compensation, workflows, and onboarding before fully committing to a role.
Sharing this as a reminder for fellow VAs and remote workers: pay attention to red flags early. If someone is dismissive, hostile, racist, or degrading during the interview stage, it usually does not improve once you start working with them.
There are still many respectful and professional clients out there. Don’t feel pressured to tolerate abuse just because you need the job.
