Travel questions and concerns
Hey guys, me and my boyfriend are travelling to the Amalfi Coast from June 3rd–6th and we’re staying in Piano di Sorrento. I have a few travel concerns/questions, so any advice would be massively appreciated!
- How frequent are the trains between Piano di Sorrento and Sorrento, both ways? Also, what are the earliest and latest trains we’d realistically be able to get? Our accommodation is only a few minutes’ walk from the station, so we’ll probably be spending most evenings and early mornings in Sorrento.
Unfortunately we only have 2 full days — one will be spent in Capri, and the other doing Amalfi + Positano. I know trying to do both towns in one day isn’t ideal, but I really don’t want to skip either.
We were thinking of getting the bus to Amalfi first thing in the morning because the earliest ferry from Sorrento doesn’t get into Amalfi until around 10:35am, which feels quite late when trying to fit both places into one day. I’ve seen there’s a bus leaving around 6:30am that arrives around 8:00am, which seems much better.
A few questions about this:
2-Where do you buy the bus tickets? Since it leaves so early, I’m guessing ticket offices won’t be open.
3-Will the bus still be extremely busy that early in the morning in June, or should we be okay getting on? I’m worried about not getting a seat/place and then having to wait ages for the next one.
For the journey back to Sorrento, I’ve noticed the buses run later than the ferries, which would give us a few extra hours in Positano. My concern is that the buses start in Amalfi, so by the time they reach Positano they might already be full with people heading back to Sorrento.
4-Would we be better off leaving a bit earlier and taking the ferry back to Sorrento just to be safe, or is the bus generally okay and worth the risk for the extra time in Positano?
Any general advice/tips for travelling around the Amalfi Coast in early June would also be really appreciated — thank you!
