Amalfi Coast + Puglia + Rome

Guys, I’m going to Italy next month (June) and since the trip came up last minute, I still have a lot of questions. 😬

The initial itinerary would be:
12th: departure
13th to 16th: Rome (3 nights)
16th to 21st: Amalfi Coast (5 nights)
21st to 23rd: Capri (2 nights)
23rd to 29th: Puglia (6 nights)
29th: return

  1. Do you think this number of days for each place is reasonable? Or should I increase or decrease any of them?

  2. Is it worth including Matera and/or Ischia?
If so, as a day trip or staying overnight?
If staying overnight, where could I cut days to fit them in?

  3. On the Amalfi Coast, is it better to stay in Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, or Praiano? Or should I split the stay between two bases? Which ones?

  4. In Puglia, I’ll most likely split the trip into two bases. Which ones would you recommend?

  5. In your opinion, what’s the best way to get around within each place?

Context:
Couple’s trip.
We like beaches/beach clubs, beautiful scenery, cultural immersion, walking around charming town centers, good restaurants, and some nightlife (bars or even a little clubbing).
We want to avoid stress (if possible lol).

Praiano Air bnb vs Hotel

A family of four adults traveling to Amalfi coast beginning of June. Already have a reservation that I can cancel for hotel Tramanto de Oro. Considering changing to an Airbnb with great reviews still in Praiano but closer to Positano. For those who have experience in the area, would you recommend an Airbnb with a concierge and 40 steps/ a hill versus a full service hotel? The biggest pro to an Airbnb is my adult children get their own rooms as opposed to having to share a room at the hotel. Airbnb has a private pool and gorgeous views, but is not as walkable as hotel Tramanto to town/ restaurants. Airbnb is less money so could use savings for private driver and experiences. Thanks for any advice!

Heading to the Amalfi Coast for the first time! Need detailed feedback on my 7-day itinerary

Hi everyone!

I am planning a 7-day road trip to the Amalfi Coast from June 14th to June 21st. Since it’s my absolute first time visiting this part of Italy, I could really use some expert advice. Local travel agencies haven't been particularly helpful or reliable, so I’ve decided to put this itinerary together myself (with a bit of help of AI).

We will be staying at a hotel located in the Massa Lubrense / Sorrento area, which will serve as our base for the week. Since we'll have a car, I tried to build a schedule that balances driving, sightseeing, and relaxation, but I want to make sure the logistics from this specific location are realistic.

Here is the detailed breakdown of what I have in mind:

The Itinerary

  • Day 1 (Sunday, June 14): Arrival & Settling In
    • Arrive at the airport, pick up the rental car, and drive to our hotel in Massa Lubrense.
    • Spend the evening unpacking, exploring the immediate neighborhood, and having a relaxed dinner nearby to kick off the trip.
  • Day 2 (Monday, June 15): Exploring the Sorrentine Peninsula
    • A relaxed day to get used to the local pace. Explore the town center of Sorrento (Piazza Tasso, the lemon groves, and the viewpoint at Villa Comunale).
    • In the afternoon, drive around the quieter corners of Massa Lubrense (like Marina della Lobra or Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi) for some great views away from the massive crowds.
  • Day 3 (Tuesday, June 16): The Jewel of the Coast – Positano
    • Drive from Massa Lubrense to Positano early in the morning to beat the worst of the traffic.
    • Spend the day walking down the narrow, cascading streets, browsing the boutique shops, and relaxing near Spiaggia Grande.
    • Head back in the late afternoon/evening.
  • Day 4 (Wednesday, June 17): Island Escape to Capri
    • Leave the car parked at our base or in Sorrento, and take a morning ferry/boat tour over to Capri.
    • Explore Capri town, Anacapri, and ideally take a boat ride around the Faraglioni rocks.
    • Return by ferry in the evening.
  • Day 5 (Thursday, June 18): Amalfi Town & The Heights of Ravello
    • A bigger driving day: heading further down the coast past Positano to Amalfi town. Explore the historic center and the iconic Duomo di Sant'Andrea.
    • In the afternoon, drive up the winding roads to the peaceful hilltop town of Ravello. Visit the cliffside gardens of Villa Rufolo or Villa Cimbrone for those famous panoramic views.
  • Day 6 (Friday, June 19): History & Scenic Drives (Pompeii or Sorrento Coast)
    • Keep this day somewhat flexible. The current plan is to drive inland to visit the ancient ruins of Pompeii in the morning while it's not too hot.
    • Alternatively, use this day for a scenic drive down toward the southern end of the peninsula, or just enjoy a beach day if we are feeling fatigued.
  • Day 7 (Saturday, June 20): Relaxed Farewell
    • A completely open day to revisit a favorite spot, do some last-minute souvenir shopping (looking at you, Limoncello), and enjoy a nice final dinner on the coast.
  • Day 8 (Sunday, June 21): Heading Home
    • Check out of the hotel, drive back to the airport, return the rental car, and catch our flight back.

A few specific things I’d love your feedback on:

  1. The Driving & Chokepoints: Is driving from Massa Lubrense to places like Positano and Amalfi manageable in mid-June if we leave early enough? I’ve read about the alternate license plate rules and heavy traffic—does that apply to rental cars?
  2. Capri Logistics: Is it better to take the ferry to Capri directly from Sorrento, or are there good boat tours departing closer to Massa Lubrense?
  3. Parking Strategy: Should I pre-book parking garages in Positano and Amalfi ahead of time, or is it a matter of "show up and pray" in mid-June?
  4. Pacing: Does day 5 (Amalfi + Ravello) feel too packed with the driving involved, or is it doable?

Any tips, tweaks, or insider secrets would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance for helping a first-timer out!

Amalfi travel with newborn

Hi, my wife and I are planning to travel to Amalfi with a 3 month old and were looking for properties where we can have a comfortable stay (ideally with a pool or sea view) as we anticipate staying indoors more than sightseeing given the baby can get cranky after few hours. We plan to fly down to Naples on 31st May and fly back on 6th June. We are flexible to make Naples the base or any town in Amalfi and stay put. Any suggestions / recommendations would be highly appreciated.

  1. Which town should we make our base?

  2. Which hotel/ resorts would you recommend as being family friendly? Ideal budget would be less than €300 per night

Thank you

Tips how to make Sorrento bearable in June?

Tagging along on a family holiday to Sorrento in mid June and I’m worried about the crowds
any tips on how to make it a bit more enjoyable?

Some background info:
We’re renting a house about a mile from the city centre, we might rent a car (have private parking).
I prefer soaking in atmosphere and enjoying nice food and wine, over a packed itinerary and ticking off every attraction in the area. I love the sea and picturesque streets/views.
Are my wants impossibilities?

Is there a pleasant way to see at least a small part of the Amalfi coast? Or should I go somewhere completely different?

Are there any gems in Sorrento, that’s walkable from the city centre?

Any beaches that aren’t overcrowded?

Is there a way to get to/visit Pompeji without having to elbow our way through the crowds?

The rest of the family will book day trips to Capri and other places, but I’m probably gonna skip some of it, think it’ll be too hectic for me.

Fingers crossed someone can help a worried girl out!!

Best swimming around Naples/Amalfi coast?

My husband and I are going to Italy for the first two weeks of June (1-15). We plan to spend some time in Rome, maybe a couple of days visiting wineries in Tuscany, and then the rest of the time around Naples/the Amalfi coast.

I absolutely love to swim and hope to spend a lot of that time in the water. I'm looking for reccomendations for the best beaches and/or rocky swimming areas anywhere around Naples or Amalfi. Willing to do day trips or overnights. Ideally accessible by public transit, but we're open to renting a car if that's the way to go! We'd love a mix of some easily accessible beaches where we can see some local characters/classic Italian beach club vibes, but also love to hike and would enjoy some more remote hike-in spots.

Also open to general feedback about where to go for these two weeks - we're not set on any locations besides that we fly in and out of Rome. Also wondering about weather this time of year - is it usually hot enough to swim? Should we go further south?

Thanks for any and all advice!

Emilio Pucci and Capri

Most traveling to Caprii will know Emilio Puccii for his breezy, colorful mid-century modern designs. (“They were groovy, Baby!”). The label launched in the 1950’s, and Pucci prints soon became synonymous with the “jet setters” whose patronage earned Pucci the moniker “Prince of Prints.” In fact, Pucci was an aristocrat, the Marquis of Barsento, born into one of the oldest noble families of Florence. Despite the family ties to Florence, Pucci was born in Naples and spent most of his boyhood summers in and around Capri. His love of the island, and its having become a popular destination for his jet set clientele, led Pucci to choose Capri over Florence as the location of the first Pucci boutique. The original, opened in the 1950’s, was located at La Canzone del Mare in Marino Piccolo, and focused primarily on resort wear and bore the label “Emilio of Capri.”
Throughout the 1950’s, Pucci extended the line with his wildly popular “Capri pants” and his signature printed shirts designed for knotting at midriff. By 1960, Pucci’s psychedelic lava-lamp prints, often applied to fluid fabrics like silk and cotton jersey, were a worldwide sensation, and the label changed to “Emilio Pucci.” Seemingly everyone from fashion luminaries to ski bums took a liking to Pucci’s spirited, forward looking designs, as fresh today as ever, despite being no longer designed by Emilio. The boutique on Capri is now located in Capri town at 67 via Camarelle.

I purchased the Pucci shirt shown above in 2000. It’s only been worn a couple of times. (One can’t be seen wearing it often. Lol). Sometimes I unpack it just to look at and enjoy the print.

Anyone in Amalfi who would ship me something

Hello, a long shot but is there anyone in Amalfi who would pick something up for me and have it mailed to Canada. I will pay for all plus give a good tip. It would be very meaningful.

Marina Grande cancelled

I received an email today from Marina Grande in Amalfi saying my reservation for lunch on July 9th was cancelled due to coast guard seizures
Has anyone else gotten this email and why would they be canceling reservations 2 months from now? I’ll be so disappointed if this is true. We’re staying in Sorrento and are only in Amati for a day trip

Getting to and from Praiano

My boyfriend and I will be visiting Amalfi Coast in June. We are staying in Sorrento first and then Praiano for the rest of the trip.

Any suggestions on best (and cheapest) way to get from:

  1. Sorrento to Praiano? Noticed that ferries generally don't get into Praiano. How much would a taxi cost?

  2. Praiano to Capri for a day trip? Seems like the only possibility is via a boat tour - has anyone else used a boat taxi or ferry?

We only have 1.5 days in Sorrento - wondering if its better to visit Capri from Sorrento (day trip) or its worth spending some time exploring Sorrento?

Thank you!!!

Private Car Service - Amalfi to Positano

Hi, can anyone help me with private car services from Amalfi Town to Positano in late June? Is there a better way to travel apart from the private car in case the car is expensive? We will have 2 cabin and 2 large bags.

Amalfi-Ravello shuttle schedule

These are the 2 shuttles, photo taken today 8 May 2026 by me. Thought to share it because I wish I had this information before going to Ravello. The price is much cheaper than taxi (80€ one way lol). I recommend you get your tickets online, for example the return amico shuttle today at 3 PM was full so they refused the people without a ticket.

The amico shuttle is a regular shuttle bus. The CMS shuttle is a convertible bus so if you care about the view get that one.

2.5 Hours Enough to Land at NAP, Get to Naples Beverello Port, and Catch a Ferry?

Hey everyone!

Our connecting flight got delayed three hours unfortunately and will land at 1 PM. We had a ferry booked from Naples Beverello to Positano at 3:35 PM. Is this doable at all or should I look for alternatives to get to Positano.

Will obviously need to deboard plane, go through EES/Customs, and then get to the port, so not sure how long the EES stuff takes in Naples right now.

Any advice would be appreciated, as the 3:30 PM Ferry is the latest I can find for June 1st 😞

One night in Positano - pick my restaurant

Da Vincenzo (currently have a reservation booked), Il Tridente (reservations not open yet), Saraceno D’Oro, or something else?

A friend raved about Da Vincenzo but with only one night there I’m questioning if we should be dining Al fresco with a better view.

We are also going to da Adolfo for lunch.
