Just got a lovely little Iver Johnson safety revolver!

Just got a lovely little Iver Johnson safety revolver!

I definitely overpaid for it ($195), especially considering the cylinder thread is worn down, But I love it nevertheless! It’s got a nice patina and wear pattern that only comes from years of consistent shooting, and I really like to see old guns that have seen generations of use like that. The store I bought it from had lots of interesting and rare firearms, so maybe I’ll come back later with another.

1880s album page- how can I (or can I) see the writing on the back? (USA)

I have a photo that was cut out of an old album. I have seen other pages of the album, and there is no writing. I suspect there may be writing on the back of the photos, but I don’t know if there is a way to read the back of the photo without having remove the photo from the page (that would cost $200 per photo). I don’t know if it’s possible, but I want to see if anyone knows. If someone knows a sub that mi have more info about this, that would be helpful too.

Is there any functional difference between a BW Raymond balance and an Elgin 16s balance from the same era?

I just got a great deal on a BW Raymond from 1912, but unfortunately the staff is broken. I can’t afford a platax tool or any other balance disassembly tool yet, so I want to just buy a full balance. The thing is that BW Raymond balances cost around $100, while I can get a 15 jewel movement with a good balance for only around $30. I’m hoping to keep the original balance and replace the staff once I get a platax, but that isn’t going to be for a long time, and I want a temporary balance until then. Are there any cheaper 16s elgins with that same type of balance?

Two kids walk their dog through “Milton” the AL&T company town, Flagstaff Arizona, 1911

This is a photo from the Riordan mansion state park collection, and it shows two kids walking their dog through “Milton” the Arizona Lumber & Timber company’s town that housed mill workers. The mill closed in the 1940s, and Milton is now part of Flagstaff.

What bullet would this Ballard rifle take?

I’ve been working to get this Ball & Williams made Ballard rifle from a nearby antique store, but in the meantime, I’m trying to figure out what bullet it would take so I can buy some display rounds to go with it after I buy it. Every source I’ve seen just says it shoots .46 rimfire, but I’ve seen .46 short, .46 carbine, .46 long, and .46 extra long. Considering how pricey the old .46 rounds are, I’d rather hear it from one of you guys than spend $30 on the wrong bullet
