I am currently working within a company that doesn’t have to do with my degree at all because it had the potential to push me into the field I wanted until some recent internal decisions made it not happen. A little while ago I was trying to get my friend a job within the US before his VISA expired, and while doing that my coworker said his wife could help get him a job if he needed it. She is high up in the company and now knowing my current employer cannot give me the path I need to move up, I want to ask for the reference. Is that a bad idea if I explain the situation to him or is it not worth mixing work and personal business?
