Sport vs. Sport Hybrid mpg?
I’m just starting to look at cars (current vehicle works well, saving a large down payment and this isn’t a “right now” type of decision)
Right now I’m leaning towards a Crosstrek Sport. While deciding between the sport and the sport hybrid, I’m looking at mpg. The difference seems to be 29 vs 36 avg mpg. Which using $4/gal and 12,500 miles/year equates to about $335/year in fuel savings. In order to offset the initial cost difference of the hybrid I would need to maintain the car for about ten years. Not out of the question.
Also considering the hybrid loses the spare tire, the hybrid is a hard sell for me. Is there something I’m missing with the hybrid that might make it a more attractive option? If I spend that extra money, I’d rather go with the Wilderness than a Hybrid.
