Mid-Career Change into Finance... Advisory-ish

I'm hoping to identify potential roles in the Financial Advisory space. I have a rough idea of what I'm interested in, but I definitely don't know what I don't know. I really enjoy the industry and company I work in right now, but I like the idea of exploring a new industry for the 2nd half of my career. Even if the job market is challenging right now, I'd still like to learn about potential roles.

42 y/o Mid Level Manager that's been at the same company for 18 years. Currently making $165k in a MCOL area. I fully expect to take a pay cut by "starting over" in a new field and am prepared to do so.... but hoping not to cut by half.

I've got a sales/marketing background, but I am more interested in an advisory type role and am not looking for anything heavily commission based. I really enjoy retirement planning and managing my own portfolio, so I'm curious about what type of roles may be worth pursuing in that arena. Open to client facing, or even "back office" if they exist.

First bit of research is pointing me towards RIA, Fee Only Advisor, or maybe Investment Operations.

I'd love to hear feedback on potential roles I could research further. For now, I'm going to take the SIE and Series 65... primarily to see if I'm really interested in this industry as I get more into the weeds.

Looking forward to getting a reality check from those in this space. 😄
