Employee's Discriminating Against Trans Shoppers
Is it the policy of BJ's Wholesale to discriminate against trans shoppers looking for clothing?
Backstory: I visited a BJ's Wholesale Club in Deptford, NJ on May 9th of 2026. I was shopping for female clothing as an outwardly showing male. Looking at female shirts and dresses; holding them up to my person and seeing if they would fit. BJ's is a wholesale club where you are not allowed to take unpaid merchandise to the restroom to try something on; so for someone like me who might be unsure if they should buy an XL or a XXL I need to do my best guess. So, as I was doing this while completing my weekly shopping I was yelled at by an employee, several aisles over... She said... 'do you need something' which I replied I was looking at clothes. She said... 'for you?'...
Which caused me to react. She was eaither a) annoyed that an outwardly male customer was looking at female clothes or b) annoyed that in doing my due diligence to see if something would fit... was unfolding her previously folded attire. Even though, being a formal Old Navy employee I am very mindful of making sure I am not disrupting too much of their work.
So, my question is... Is BJ's not a safe space for a transgender member of our society to shop?
