Suggested LAN-style Game Settings for Noobs

Hey guys, a few close friends and I are looking to play a game together this weekend, and I was looking for input on how to best set things up. I understand there are no teams/co-op modes at the moment, but I figured we could use "soft" alliances at least if needed.

A few more details:

- There will be 4 of us.
- We're all fairly new to the game, though we grew up playing Heroes 2 and 3 together. No one has put more than 10 hours into Olden Era yet.
- We'll all be playing in the same room, LAN-style, but on our own Steam accounts.
- I expect we'll probably have ~8 hour window of actual play time. We aren't usually in the same country at the same time, so really looking forward to this and trying to make the most of it.

Given these parameters, what would you suggest for game-styles/maps/templates? Ideally, it would be fun to 4v4 against some AI together... but without teams, I don't see a way to stop the AI from fighting each other. I guess we could just turn up the difficulty to make that work anyway though.

We could also just do a FFA game with the 4 of us. It will just suck for the person who dies first.

I think single-hero mode is probably the way to go to make things as simple as possible. But I'd love to play a really massive map with ridiculous amounts of relics, loot, etc. Essentially we'd all be stomping neutral armies together I guess. Any better ideas?
